I'm old school...give me Tony Angelo's in Lakeview. Feed me!
You probably haven't been since Tony died then. Our last trip there was terrible. The food was so-so but the service was some of the worst service I've ever experienced. I've shared this story with others and they all agreed the restaurant has fallen way off.

Is that place frowned upon here?
I've been there once for Sunday brunch...Tuscan Shrimp & Grits were delicious.
If the Marcello's in NOLA is the same family that had Marcello's in BR, then that would be my top choice. Used to love that place in BR.
Also, fun fact, Cristiano of Cristiano Ristorante in Houma bought Dick & Jenny's a few years ago and IIRC put some of his Italian items on the menu. I can tell you from many many many experiences at Cristiano's that his Italian cuisine is worth seeking out if offered on menu at D&J.

Domenica and a spot off of Decatur called Italian Barrell.
No one on here talks about the Barrell but it's legit.

Mosca's is one of the most overrated places I've ever been to.

I wouldn't go that far as I feel that title of most overrated restaurant in the metro area belongs to Brigtsen's, but I agree Mosca's is overrated by most people.

I think people have an expectation that it's something that it's never intended to be. It's an informal, old school country style Italian restaurant (influenced by and using local ingredients). It serves food for the table. Oysters Mosca is delicious with spaghetti bordelaise and the crabmeat salad. Throw in Chicken a la Grande. And if they have the home made sausage available grab some.
It's not fancy cuisine and never was intended to be. It's just really good food and a fun experience for four or more people, especially. It's gotten to be expensive, but that's okay. I'm not eating there everyday.

I just find it oily. But that family style old school spaghetti and meatballs is bananas.

I grew up going there and probably have eaten there over 100 times .. Believe me I get what it is intended to be. It's a unique experience for sure but I totally disagree with your feelings that they serve "really good food".

Was there last weekend and had the meatballs and the fried eggplant. Both were delicious but I think I give a slight edge to the eggplant. Her red gravy is really delicious. If you like a good red sauce, it's one to try.

Is the red gravy at Red Gravy sweet or savory?
