Lived there for a year after school and found it extremely insular and not a terribly inviting community.
I found it too much of an overgrown small town for my personal preferences.

Do you enjoy living in a provincial community where people are always up in your business?
Utter and complete bullshite.

No idea. I don't hang out at little league parks

If you feel like someone is always "up in your business" in a city with a population of over 120,000 and a MSA over a quarter of a million, you're either paranoid are doing something terribly wrong. Not suggesting there aren't people who fit your description, but not an entire city filled with them. Like any area, it takes time to find people you like and to avoid those you don't.

I think Lafayette folks are extremely closed minded when it comes to outsiders. If you aren't from there, you're not "one of them."
Then again, maybe people just don't like me. That's entirely possible.

And I'm not complaining or saying it is a bad thing, but it's true.

We play softball there in Youngsville. Hit CB before and after. They do sell beer at the ballpark with some tvs upstairs. Not a bad spot fields are turf as well

Grew up in Lafayette...would never go back to live. To me, Lafayette, despite it's penchant for good times, good food and a somewhat stable economy, it is at its core a sleazy town.

Definitely a small town mindset in regards to outsiders in Lafayette.
At least that was the case 10 years ago. It might have changed since, who knows?

Seems to be real hit or miss. I know a lot of people who have moved to Lafayette and really enjoy it. Also know some people who moved here and didn't feel like they fit in.

I hate that many people feel this way about the area. I've lived here my whole life and became good friends with guys from England, South Africa, and New Zealand in college. I also married someone of both Honduran and Italian descent and my brother married a Korean woman. I've always been interested and even fascinated by people from other areas, and I grew up in Henderson The people I associate with on a regular basis are just as open minded. You simply have to be willing to ignore the ignorant in any area and not rush to judgement about an entire area.

Lafayette could be one million strong and it would still have a very Maybury feel in that regard.
