trendy privilege of living there.

It's more than just trendy, it's convenient. There's a good bar, good restaurants, entertainment, and shopping all in a centralized location.

Taproom, the Whole Foods bar, Ruffinos, whatever Village Cafe is now named, etc... Are all good spots. Not to mention rhythms on the river. Access to a gym, and more.

They should have installed some tunnel like they have connecting Cajun Field and the Cajundome parking lots underneath Camellia to really bring it all together, IMO

Lived in Lafayette for 10 years and really enjoyed it - lived in Greenbriar and commuted to the Oil Center (5 minutes any time of the day). Great food and decent schools (my children graduated from St. Thomas Moore). Thought seriously about retiring there, but choose the mountains instead.

FTR, I grew up in Metry and moved to BR in mid 80's - LSU student

Moved to Laffy in late 80's when downtown was a ghost town with abandoned bldgs. You did not want to be in DT Laffy during this time. Most were partying at the Strip , Rays, Club Spritz, Signatures, Kingfish, etc...

I have teenagers now and only do DT for festivals on occasion and to eat killer groceries I ain't chasing skirts as the DT nightlife has nothing to offer me.

Yeah, it's not a magnificent sight to behold but there are some cool old buildings downtown and the restaurants are comparable and surpass even much larger cities.

downtown definitely has a small town feeling with a unique ambiance like no other. You can walk to just about anywhere within the 5 square block area

I think a point that hasn't been addressed here, is that while there is plenty of Cajun guido trash in Lafayette, it's pretty easy to avoid it unless you want to go to a downtown bar or Red's. Honestly, just about the only time I get drinks anymore is at Parish, and I'd say 95% of the folk there have one or more degree. It's easy to avoid the baws.

So long as you aren't from here/have family here, you'll be fine.
But you'll learn, quickly that Lafayette is a much smaller town than the population leads you to believe. Everyone knows almost everyone, by association.

The River Ranch area will land you decent status & let girls think you have more money than you might actually have. Close to the newer places worth going out & not dealing with oilfield trash or other negative elements. With the current downturn, you might seriously find a true steal of a deal as far as a place to live in that area.
Just deal with the traffic cameras & parked Speed Vans.

I know. My point is that a lot of people stretched their means to live there, and many have and will sell their homes. The lack of buyers and the inability of people to pay their notes will result in foreclosures and the drastic lowering of asking prices.

It's a buyer's wet dream, as all of those houses are pretty new and the neighborhood is nice.

There is a tunnel under Camellia in front of City Club and a walk way under the bridge near Ruffinos.

Yeah it's nice but too bad they built it way out there

Rock n sake is opening next to city club. I don't really like the food but I'm sure it will be a nice place to pick up chicks
