This AT&T Next plan is a joke, right?

2 year contract expired and I inquired about a new phone.
My options are:
A) Keep using my phone, it's on it's last leg, and continue to pay for my plan as usual.
B) Jump on the next plan and pay $25 extra on top of my bill for the next 30 months, that's 2 1/2 years, if I want a new phone.
That's it, no other options.
So T-Mobile, Sprint? Who's at least giving kisses before they get to screwing?

There's undeniable implied or explicit collusion between the big carriers. They are all fricking us now.

Heard about this last week. I just told myself whatever the second newest phone that is out will be my choice. Once the new phone comes out the others drop to $99 or so

You should get a reduction in your monthly service fee.
Bottom line is the carriers don't want to subsidize handsets anymore. Offerings like straight talk are being copied by the carriers.
This will create pricing pressure on the manufacturers which is a good thing down the road.
Buy a used phone on gazelle.com. If you don't constantly swap phones, it's probably cheaper in the long run.

I threw my phone last night and busted it like a dumbfrick, but was able to use my ipad eligibility for a new upgrade today.
Yeah its dumb, I think i'm paying like $35 extra a month now, BUT apparently my actual bill is going to be reduced by $15-20.
Per the apple store, they are shifting to where they lower your bill, but you essentially pay full price for your phone. Basically shifting the price structure.

You can buy a new phone somewhere else and use it. New iPhones on ebay start at around $800. Or, you could pay $30/month to AT&T on the Next Plan and pay the exact same amount as the out of pocket expense.

Amazing how people go full retard not understanding the next plan.
We have had numerous threads showing why it essentially comes out the same and it allows people that like to upgrade to do so much more often.

C) Buy a phone, new or used, literally anywhere else that sells GSM phones.
D) go with option C and then switch to Straight Talk with an AT&T SIM.

That's how the upgrades worked. You could get the 2nd newest phone for a huge discount.
They told me they only offer 6s and 6s+. If I wanted another 5 I'd have to find a refurbished one.
I went a little off the reservation when I compared their new plans with the current entitlement culture, and told them they didn't know a damn thing about delayed gratification. Waiting 2 years for a deal seemed foreign to them.
They may work with a more sane, rational person. I'm pretty sure I just burned my bridges though.

It's flat out impossible for people to understand. I just don't understand why.

These threads are always fun to see who can't do math.

Unless you have unlimited data. ATT is using their big orange and blue dick to screw people out of their plan.

How can it cost essentially the same?
You end up paying $750 over 30 months plus your bill.
I used to get a new phone for a penny or five dollars and that was it I just signed a two-year commitment and continue to pay my bill.

How? Show me the math.
We have done the math in a lot of threads about this and at the end of two years it's the same unless you go for a really cheap phone on the next plan and in that case it's cheaper.

I think Verizon is doing the same thing, but honestly it ends up being cheaper than a 2 year contract for myself.
Have my wife and I on the edge up shite, but we also have her sister on her 2 year contract. She got a deal with a free phone with 2 gigs of data for like $75. We switched her off that, we have like 12 gigs of data to share and with edge up for iPhones, we save like $20 a month had we all been on the 2 year contract with only 2 gigs. It's not a lot but more data and new phones sooner and save a little in the process is a win for me.
