but would they have beat Zachary?
Probably not (esp since Zachary housed them earlier in the season).
But CHS would have made the Dome.

the problem is we have too many hood and BFE schools that can't be made good, and they each have a vote in the LHSAA, and they supported the split

Have not read the thread, so can I get a Cliff's of the issue and what caused the overturn?

quote:Agreed. I am simply speaking to the "unfair" whiners. In most states there is a public/private split to protect the health of the private school kids.

New Orleans is mostly charter schools now, and their district is the entire city. Schools like Karr, Landry-Walker, Warren Easton are in prime position to dominate.
But strangely, those schools weren't counted as select schools for some reason.
those all get their kids via random lottery. they don't have a chance to select the individual kids that can go to those schools. kids can put first choice, second choice, etc. but that doesn't mean they get in or that the schools are keeping them out beyond a limit to their enrollment
hence why Ben Franklin and Lusher are select. they do select the kids who go there out of those who apply

My take on it is that Bonnie determined that the split was not a good thing and found a way to dump it. So he dredged up the old "against the LHSAA constitution" argument that was previously decided the other way by his predecessor.
If you listen to him when he's on the radio, he comes across as a political operative type. I think he wanted the quickest and easiest way to dump the split and put off all that tedious voting and stuff. Which is not to say he was wrong. (I'm not sure about that question). Throughout history, lot of good results have come about through political maneuvering and tactics.

At the time of split, they didn't get their kids that way or if they did, there was a way to manipulate it. But that was when OP Walker and LB Landry were still separate, so that certainly could have changed. I was working in Algiers at the time and knew the athletic director of the charter school system that ran OP Walker and (at that time) Karr. They specifically applied to be exempt from select status even though they had open enrollment and should have been select.

Nah. They'll just have to get rid of some overhead and it will be like Mississippi and Texas:A Private and Public league coexisting.

SHHHHH he doesn't understand. He doesn't know that losing the privates would cripple the southern half of the state.

Then where will the urban public schools get the money to run their athletic departments? The Baton Rouge schools are funded from gate money from games against schools like Catholic and Parkview that bring more fans than the public schools could ever dream of, in the current environment.

the enrollment curve doesn't solve the problem of the problem schools.
and had they not forced eca and jc down we would not be having this discussion

I disagree, at least in the New Orleans area.
The publics bring very few people. McDonogh 35 has a strong football program, yet a few years ago when we (Brother Martin) played them, at Tad Gormley, they could have put all their spectators in one section and not filled it.
Walker was a little better, but not much, same for Karr. They all seem to want the gameday attendance split with the private schools because we bring crowds. It's the same in Jefferson Parish, I live next door to E.J. and only E.J. and the privates bring any semblance of a crowd/fanbase.
I've read where it's drastically different in other parts of the state, but if there are two associations, Greater New Orleans publics will suffer, save for Fountainbleau and Mandeville.

I'm not so sure of that. In some ways the split benefited the privates more than the public. I think they originally got 5 classes, same as the publics for a lot less number of school. Heck, if I remember right they fought not to have the number of private school classes reduced. (really, the number of classes for both sides should have been reduced but the privates should have been reduced more to keep the same number of schools per class for each).
I haven't really heard any complaints from privates or publics recently.

total split coming anyway.... too much bad blood.
nearly every public coach, principal or AD i have come in contact wants full split now in all sports.. at least 8 out of 10
There will be even more bad blood by the public schools by dropping this the way that they did. This is going to get ugly and it may be the end of the LHSAA as we know it.
Posted on 1/15/16 at 1:48 pm to Mr Eko
whoever has the bad blood needs to look in the mirror... and ask themselves "am i the problem? or the solution?"

In hindsight the original force down or play in your classification move was a terrible move. There will be bad blood by every 1a and 2a public school forever because of that move.
