Spinoff: AMC Theatres are headed down the tubes

TLDR version - bring your own cup to AMC and get your own free drinks via their new "free refills" concession strategy.
To many, this chain was the saving grace of movie theatres. Some bigger cities have Shobiz which can offer a nicer experience, for the price of course, but it seems AMC has their sights set on astronomical prices.
Yes, we will always see high concession prices per the theater's main revenue stream. We went to AMC today (in Houston) and could not believe the latest antics.
A small popcorn is $6.09 is now the size of what used to be a medium (at AMC).
Drinks are now only offered as "unlimited refills" for everyone...which is just what my parents and grandparents need. Even though they offer S, M, and L sizes the cups are pretty much the same size. Again, the small today what AMC served as a Medium less than a year ago.
Nachos @ $6.89 come in a bag and when you put the chips into your nacho tray, it is only half full. Wuuuuut?
Prices are going through the roof...I can't imagine when my kids are in their teenage years (in ~7 years) what the cost of seeing a movie with a popcorn and coke will be.
:wha:

How much are the popcorn tubs w/ the hole pre-cut out of the bottom?
Posted on 12/27/15 at 8:20 pm to HoustonGumbeauxGuy
Just trying to keep you poors out

The AMC in Katy is the cheapest movie ticket around and the concessions seem comparable with anywhere else.

Those pics of popcorn, large soft drinks and liquefied cheese gross me out.

Just duct tape a 20 piece mc nuggets to your gooch like everyone else and be done with it

Huge part of why movie piracy will not slow down anytime soon
Family of four can stay home, buy popcorn, candy, drinks, etc from the gas station for $10 combined and not have to deal with crowds or sadly any security threats

Simple solution, invest in a nice home theater system, get Kodi, wait a week until the movie you like is in the theaters, watch movie with Kodi in the comfort of your own home. Profit.

Who's forcing you to buy popcorn and drinks? I can't remember the last time I bought concessions and I go to a lot of movies.

I dip the entire time when I'm at the movies.
Saves a shite-ton of money.

I prefer movie beer in baton rouge, and they have the fancy chairs

Tenders and pizza is cheaper than a large popcorn? Sounds like a no brainer.
Posted on 12/27/15 at 8:53 pm to HoustonGumbeauxGuy
Who the hell eats at the movies anymore?
Posted on 12/27/15 at 9:02 pm to HoustonGumbeauxGuy
Just sneak your own food in like the rest of us

Capitalism - nobody is putting a gun to your head and making you eat popcorn.

You do realize that's their only source on income right?
Theaters don't make money off ticket sales
