Will there ever been another Goldeneye?

I think we can all agree that Goldeneye is a game of our generation and loved by nearly EVERYONE who played it and we all have our own proclivities in terms of rules with certain groups of friends.
I'm wondering what made it so amazing... Was it the simplicity? The local play? The ability to easily change the rules? I mean, Call of Duty franchise has made a good bid, for sure... But it's not the same.
I wonder if it's the online multiplayer aspect? The "paradox of choice" from the game settings?
Additionally, there are plenty of good Bond storylines that would make a solid reboot. It's all about the execution.
Thoughts?

For me, Goldeneye is about 4 player split screen "screen peaking" with friends until the sun started to come up again. They could recreate that game, but it wouldn't be the same experience.

The multiplayer was awesome but the campaign was possibly my favorite of all time
I could sit down and play it tonight if i had the means

My friends and I would also take turns trying to beat every mission on the hardest difficulty, mainly to unlock the extra MP maps. But it was a Rare MP campaign that I actually cared about.

Combination of awesome maps that weren't circular or convoluted, simple weapon choices and perks, the golden gun, and lastly the local play.

The gameplay was amazing for the time. The level design was very good, and the multiple difficulty levels with unlockable cheats was a nice spin on the genre. There was also an absolutely massive arsenal of weapons, the largest I had ever seen in a game. Headshots were awesome, and the death animations of the enemies were great too.
Then throw in the fact that online multiplayer wasn't really a thing at the time and goldeneye was really one of the first multiplayer FPS games that large numbers of people played.
The game benefitted from the time period it was released in and if another attempt was done to recreate it, there's no way it would take players away from CSGO, Battlefield or Call of Duty.

Product of its time that did a lot of things well. Perfect Dark was even better.

You were young and it was a relatively new concept for consoles at the time.
The only reason that newer releases don't give you the same feeling is because of nostalgia.
Everyone remembers their first. Case closed.
Do yourself a favor, don't try to go back to it. It really didn't hold up well.

Lies. I am about half way through the campaign and having a damn good time.

Can't go back to the days before the second analog stick. Turrible.

It was having 4 of your friends over and playing in DK mode and that one a-hole who always picked Oddjob that made it great.
I don't think the magic can be captured again with everyone on their own console.

They made another Goldeneye in 2001. I think it was called Halo. Came out on the original Xbox.

Not another Goldeneye but I could see them doing it to an older one. Hopefully Diamonds are Forever.

Sadly me and my friends found this to be true, at least for MP
