So we'd give up a 1st to get him, sign him to a shite contract, and then give up another 1st to get rid of him? If that doesn't get Dell fired nothing will.

That logic only makes sense to the fire dell brigade and not in reality

I'm pretty sure the NFL rules are set up to where the team that trades a player is still responsible for some significant portion of money. If you could trade them free and clear I bet Loomis would think dumping Browner for a 5th was good GMing.

I hate Dwight, but I would do that trade in 5 seconds.

I agree his contract is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

We. Just. Signed. Him.
Come on Dell. This looks like a huge failure on his part.

Is his deal that bad considering the looming cap increases?

The team is playing like a failure. Demps needs to go, he is our biggest problem right now.

Never bought the idea of him being the "Bogut" in Gentry's system. Asik in my mind was always about giving Monty and his system the defensive center he pined for and keeping AD healthy with minutes at the 4. Doubling down on a bad acquisition with that contract should be the final nail in Demps tenure imo.

Not going for Greg Monroe was dell's biggest mistake. It's obvious this team makeup doesn't like defense. We could at least give AD a competent big/5 thay can stay on the court to play alongside for the money and pick we gave up for asik and ajinca

Where are all the analytic geniuses that praised Asik and bashed me for questioning his role on the team? I told everybody that we should have never traded for him. Then I said to let him walk and got blasted for that. They all said we couldn't afford anyone else and at least we would have an asset that we can get something back for.. If we have to sweeten the pot just to unload the guy 25 games into his contract, that is just embarrassing..

1) We couldn't, we signed him with Bird Rights, not cap space.
2) Who said the 2nd part of your statement? There was a lot of talk and concern about how big his deal should be, and other than a Bird Writes article saying his salary was ranked fine considering how overpaid the position is in general, most people immediately didn't like the size and length of the deal.

No, and he hasn't suddenly forgotten how to play. He was placed in a system that doesn't make decent use of a traditional center for a coach who doesn't know his arse from his elbow.

It is a bad deal when you're paying someone to sit on the bench while healthy.
And he can't forget how to play b/c he never knew how to play.

I agree with that.
I still think he could be somewhat useful against certain teams and situations, but that's not worth 10 million a year.

We could have afforded Bioymbo who I wanted much more than Asik. I think we wouldn't have been able to get Gee and maybe someone else, but you could have overpaid AA for two years rather than give Asik 5 years if you absolutely needed to get to the cap.
Resigning Asik wasn't awful in and of itself, overpaying him wasn't that bad, but overpaying him for 4 years was ridiculous. Should be a fireable offense. He should have been signed to 1-2 yrs guaranteed with an extra year guaranteed for injury only.
ETA -looked back and it appears we had cap room to sign Bioymbo, Gee, and Cunningham if we had let Asik walk and maybe Babbit with the room exception.

In hindsight I think we might have even been able to sign Koufos because the cap went up $3 million more than expected. BUT, they don't release that info until well after you've made your plans and some wink wink agreements. Also Koufos probably preferred going to Sacramento because the last time he was a starter was under Karl. And signing a guy like Biyombo looks better than what's gone down with Asik, because Asik hasn't worked out at all, but Biyombo and Asik have a lot of the same positives and negatives except Asik was much more proven as a starter. I wouldn't have gotten upset at choosing Biyombo over Asik, but I wouldn't have thought it was a good move either. The problem with Asik wasn't resigning him, it was bidding against yourself on a long term deal.

Except for one huge difference between them.
As i said a multitude of times, there were a few under $3million dollar centers that could offer what Asik offers, which isn't much. Biyombo was one of them. 2 years, $3 million a year, but Asik is worth $10 million a year. Seraphin was another option under $3million.
We didnt' need to try to sign a long term center, since Asik should not have been the long term solution. We should have signed a minimum guy, with the intent on him not being on the team long, or being the backup to a starting center we would try to get this year via trade or FA. That's what Kendrick Perkins is. That was a good sign, we just should have signed two of him.
