The Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the Hancock Building was a great place to get a drink with a view. They also have fine dining in the Signature Room, but I only went for a drink.

if you want a view, go get a drink at the Chicago Athletic Club. it just reopened, looks right over the park and the tree is up now. signature room is higher, but I think this is a better view. very, very nice

My wife mentioned going to a comedy club. How does Second City compare to similar venues?

iO Shakespeare is my favorite spot outside of Second City. Second City's little sister spot (ETC) is also really good.

Yea, CAC is less touristy than Hancock. Views this time of year can be tricky because there tends to be a lot of clouds and mist that high in the air.

In your opinion, is getting a table next to a window a necessity?

Second City is iconic in the comedy world. It's amazing how many big names came out of there. Can't compare it to other places in Chicago because this weekend will be my first time going.

For breweries: Revolution, Half Acre, and Atlas are the three we will be hitting up.

if you aren't near a window, the signature room is not that great, and if its cloudy, you might skip. there also tend to be long lines this time of year. I'm not that high on it, but others seem to like it.

steak at gibsons is good. drink at the drake. people like frontera, but i've never gotten the fuss.

The lobby of the Palmer House is a very nice place to have a drink. like stepping back in time

Yes. We just so happened to stroll in right before a long line formed. The door guy read our IDs and said "Who Dat" and kicked a couple out of their seats to put us there. We had one of the best seats in the house. It is so high that you feel butterflies. Same for the womens' restroom where the entire wall (floor to ceiling) is glass.

Yea we got lucky. Guy at the desk carded us and saw I was from Nola so he took us to some seats by that window, moved the people sitting there who werent drinking, and got us a waitress asap for drinks. The view doesnt look real up there

My SO and I are headed there Friday and have reservations at The Girl and the Goat. Then headed to Second City for a show. I can't wait.

I hope your experience with second city will be better than the three I have been to in Chicago. Each one I went to sucked arse. Overrated as far as I am concerned.

Restaurant scene in Chicago is incredible. Great choices.

Tru
Grace
Sixteen (in the Trump tower)
Girl and the Goat
Longman and Eagle
Juno
Topolobampo
North Pond

I could continue, but that should suffice for a short trip. I'd avoid Spiaggia and Everest.

Here's a few regional recs we did when we went in July

River North (near your hotel)
Purple Pig (mediterranean)
Eataly
Yolk (breakfast)
Berkshire Room (awesome cocktail bar)
Three Dots & a Dash (retro tiki bar...strong arse drinks)

West Loop area--this drag along W. Randolph is awesome)

Girl & the Goat (dinner)
Au Cheval (incredible burger...get there 15-20 mins before they open if you want in)
Publican (we did charcuterie here before G&G)
There's also a few wine/beer places walking distance along Randolph

North side:
Pequod's (thick crust...my favorite pizza up there)
Hopleaf (if a beer nerd, further north)
Half Acre Brewing
(also Revolution Brewing but it's a little further west)
