Can we as a fan base not recognize that young QB's develop over time?

Cameron does have a history of developing QB's all through the NFL. I'm not a fan of his creativity with calling plays and sometimes I do question our execution but much of this can and will be fixed with patience and time. Harris is a very talented QB....he's just young.
Secondly, Harris IS a Pro-Style QB. He is not a guy that is going to run the ball 15 times in a game. Just because he is black and can run doesn't mean he is a duel threat QB. Maybe we should mold the offense to more shotgun but clearly the strength this year was LF so the offense was designed around him and the defense. We are on the right track if we allow Harris to develop. Jamarcus Russell struggled in his first 2 years and couldn't beat out Marcus Randall. He ended up the #1 overall pick. Give Harris time and it will evolve.
Rant on...but either the rant is all too young and ill experienced with football to know this or we have way too high expectations. Saban hasn't started an underclassman but 1-2 years in his tenure at Bama. Not everyone is a phenom like Jamis Winston.

That QB at Clemson is a sophomore as well.

I'd rather pick out the most exceptional examples and pass them off as common. That way I have something to cry about.

The Qb at clemson has gotten a shite ton of reps as a freshmen and is also running a spread where its much easier to run the offense. nice post OP

This board will point to outliers and say you're wrong. Like most things, the truth lies somewhere between coaching and individual talent / development. The rant needs a demon and that demon has been awful QB play the last two seasons.

Shut up. Cam has developed nothing. His qb's have gotten better when they were not with him....see drew Brees and joe Flacco.

why do we continue to make excuses?
teams get down to their 3rd string quarterbacks and look more efficient running the offense.
and spare me the SEC competition. the SEC isn't any where near what it once was right now.
young quarterbacks are having tremendous success after one year in the program all around.
i don't even blame harris. i blame coaching and putting them in best position for success and building confidence in both..
watson graded out the same as harris and both guys have similar talents. he threw a pass this saturday that reminded me so much of harris..
we can do better.
you bring up saban.. saban still has had his team in the playoffs with first year starters.. what they did with sims last year (a guy who wasn't always a qb there) was remarkable.. even if a senior..
mettenberger was a junior when he first started with LSU and he had been in the program a year prior.. and in another the year before.. he was extremely ready to go.. and he still had the same 12 tds 7 ints idential to jennings (1st year starting) and harris (1st year starting) the stats are nearly identical...
it shouldn't take us all the way to a senior year to finally have confidence in the qb play.. otherwise then we need to change things up.. bring in more junior college qbs.. and let the young guys wait.. but then they just transfer.
look, we can do better period. no reason to continue to make excuses and just accept it. it took literally an NFL offense in mett's senior year.. for us to finally have a nice offense..

LSU hasn't developed a quarter back since 2007. Mett was a gift, so he doesn't count.

I agree to an extent. But honest question. Compare the first time you saw BH to the way he is performing right now. Have you noticed a marked improvement? I'm talking 2 years of playing time improvement?

Flynn was a 5th year senior. Let's give Harris 3 more years before we write him off. Lee had progressed to be a solid QB. For some reason (pictures??) Miles wanted Jefferson but Lee was on a roll there leading us in the first 6-7 games.
Once again the rant wrote Lee off before he had a chance as an upperclassman.

Probably why he was fired during a Super Bowl run for the Ravens.
It's hilarious that both coordinators were fired at their last stint as coordinators. It's not like a HC getting fired and going back to coordinator or a OC or DC getting fired and going back to position coach. Literally both LSU OC and DC coordinators were point blank fired the last time they coordinated an offense or defense.
LSU hasn't developed a QB since Jimbo left in 2006. It's been 10 years you yokel.

He didn't get much time last year. I think the difference was as teams got more film of him he got worse and the SEC defenses took advantage of it. I'd like to see more creativity in the play calling and I'm not a fan of Cam from that stand point but the guy has a long pedigree of developing QB's and molding an offense around its strengths. I just think we need to give Harris time to develop.
Edit: Gunner Keil...not Rettig
Other options are Jennings or the Etwig (sp?) kid but I don't think either have the physical tools to compete like Harris does.
Lets not forget the QB's that got away in recruiting that we thought we had in the bag in Zach Lee and Hayden Rettig. Hard to blame Miles for those and his back up plan was Jennings and Harris.

Tell that to Cardale Jones at Ohio St. Wasn't he their 3rd string QB, a soph, and beat Bama and Oregon for a Natty?
Look, I understand, the QB position isn't as easy as plugging in the next talented guy and lighting up a defense, but there are coaches out there who prove time and again that with proper mentoring and scheming, a young QB can achieve and beat great teams. They give them a good chance to perform better than expectations.
Then, there's Miles and [insert name of any of his OCs] who constantly prove that with improper mentoring and scheming, even an experienced QB can underachieve and look retarded, confused, and inept as frick. Miles, over his tenure here, has this fanbase so thirsty for a competent QB, we actually get excited as frick when one of ours throws over 150 yds in a game. That. Is. Awful.

Zach Lee was on campus practicing. Rettig got cold feet close to signing day while feeding Miles and Co. the line he was coming.

Rettig was at LSU, idiot

Didn't he enroll early the year before? So 2 full spring practices, and SEC start, and other PT early in the year last year. Then starting every game this year, 11 games, right? That's not enough time to show marked improvement?

Clearly not Jennings. I've seen nothing of Etwig but heard reports that he's impressive.

What??? Why not blame Miles for recruiting Rettig, who ended up being pretty crappy, then he quit? Who do we blame. And he doesn't get blamed for having a backup plan of only Jennings and Harris? Who would you blame?

The guy lost his starting job this year. Once teams got film on him he regressed just like Harris as we got deeper into SEC play. He had one month to prepare for 1 game and then like 8 days for the next.

Who else do we blame for A) not getting QB talent here B) not having some sort of backup plan?
