For the past few years I tried all brands with mixed results. This year I started using Doubletap 7mm-08 140gr with Barnes TTSX ballistic tip. 3/4" or less MOA. By far the best I have shot.

Three deer and three small hogs dropped in their tracks.

Seems Everyone shoots ballistic tips, why is that?

I don't like tracking deer. Prefer for them to drop when I pull the trigger.

I'm using 308 this year for the first time (move from 30-06). My property allows an average shot of 100yds with a long shot out to about 200yds. Fits this location well for me personally.

I like the federal blue box 308 150gr soft point. Its at about 2900fps. I use a suppressor and have found this to be the best grouping factory load at the moment. This particular load has given me excellent results so far this year with nice exit wounds.

140g Hornady Interlock BTSP in 270. Good penetration and retention (virtues of a bonded bullet). Nosler Partition bullets also deliver exceptional penetration.
150g Core Lokt PSP or Hornady SST in 308.
Have never shot ballistic tips - always heard they make the bullet explode. I like exit wounds for good blood if the deer happens to leave the scene.

Soft points. Will never in my life use a ballistic tip for deer hunting. I've seen too many deer run WAY too far without a good blood trail, because the bullet exploded and did not exit.

Corelokt, but i will use Winchester powerpoints.
