Mine likes a Speer spitzer boat tail at 165 grain in my .280. I still find it amazing that folks shoot core lokts. Worst weight retention of any that we test.

The doe i shot in the neck this past weekend had a grape fruit sized exit hole from a 130gr ballistic silvertip. The wound they make from the fragmentation is down right nasty.

Weight retention isn't everything that goes into being a good bullet.

No. This is correct. I would imagine you could throw in price, availability, what your particular gun likes to shoot, etc. On the measurable side of things, weight retention, ballistics coefficient, there are far better options. To each his own though. There have been many, many deer killed with core lokts over the years. Possibly more than with any other round. But this is due to the aforementioned price and availability more so that the performance of the bullet itself. There have also been a many stories told of deer and other critters shot numerous times with core lokts that got away or that were recovered with no exit wounds and no bullets found. The latter is what finally broke my dad of his lifelong allegiance to the round after making fun of us and our "fancy hand loaded bullets". A 10 point shot 7 times that finally had to have his throat slit that when cleaned, had no exit wound but thousands of bb sized pieces of lead found throughout.

All this said, though, it primarily, not exlusively, seems to be an issue as the rounds start pushing 3k fps.

Yeah, I'd like to hear it, too. How is "worst weight retention" correspond with my findings of majority of times the bullet and jacket are mushroomed perfectly, lead and jacket in tact? I think you're full of shite, I test them on deer and they seem to work. But i'll wait for a response. thx.

As earlier stated, I shoot Barnes TSX and Hornady GMX, both lead free rounds with some of the highest weight retention, I have zero clue on where Nosler Partitions fall on that scale, but are some of the best. However, I also shoot CoreLokt in my 35 Rem. mainly due to availability. I'm not crazy about the CoreLokt bullet itself, but I've never personally had one not exit and I've killed a pile of deer with them. My dad swears by Sierra GameKings but I'm not a fan.

I shoot Sierra GameKings in my 7mm. Never had a problem with them, and deer generally don't really run very far (if at all). Hell I've blown a front shoulder off a doe on mistake.
