I am no Miles fan, not at all, but this was the correct decision. No Coach is worth what it would have cost us to get Jimbo and Sexton knew how bad LSU wanted him. Seriously, there is no other Coach who can do what he does for less than 7 million? From what I have read here (nowhere else), he wanted Saban/Harbaugh money. Then you had to sell the legislature on possibly upwards of $30 mill to bring in Jimbo. I can see the issues there.

I can't tell you how many people I spoke to before the game Saturday that wanted Jimbo, but didn't have any idea of the cost or said LSU can't afford to fire Miles. Most people in LA, the UL system people, the New Orleans people have no idea or incentive to understand LSU and how TAF generates funds. I can easily see North LA Leges or New Orleans Leges on the floor of the Capital saying we spent $15 mill to fire Les and another $20mill or so to hire Jimbo, why can't we afford all these other things. Whether correct or not; no politician is above fear mongering and placating the uninformed electorate. It is not about LSU winning, it is about them winning elections.

Miles was set to be fired next year, that was the reason for the Chavis contract and all the new two-year deals. Something pushed Alleva to begin the process early and because of that, people were upset and as "The Advocate" article said; many BOS members were upset. I can't help but think that all of this heated up after the election as well. What better time to fire a coach? Next year there will be a new BOS and Alleva may not be able to get a new hire approved. I really think the Governor's election regardless of Jindal's involvement really accelerated the clock on Les. Alleva just underestimated how the BOS would react when you want to fire a coach who openly campaigned for the outgoing Governor and what all you peoples forget: Miles is still a State employee and the highest paid one at that. Yeah, his salary is covered by additional revenue, but the first $350k or so is still covered by LSU/State of LA. So politics is going to be very involved.

That being said, Alleva needs to go. He should have never been hired.

People were excited about the possibilities of an offense that didn't look like a monkey trying to frick a football.

Exhibit A (and this was the week our coach was told he was coaching for his job):

Better question is why would Jimbo seriously want to come to LSU?

The man has already won a NC and is winning the last 4 yrs at a rate of 93%. What can he do at LSU that he is not already doing at Fla. St? Please don't say it's cause of money. That doesn't make sense either. LSU can put out 25 mil to pull a deal like this off, but Fla. St couldn't put out 3-4 mil. to keep the guy???

I never saw this type of play at this point in time taking place, but who knows what really happened.

Well FSU is about to be 2 years removed from a NC so Jimbo is underachieving by rantards standards and would have been fired here shortly after being hired.

Childish logic.

Jimbo followed up his NC with a playoff appearance last year. This year they've dropped to 10-2.

No one expects a coach to win it all, or get in the playoff, every year. But elite programs like our should be in the mix more often than not.

FSU is "down" this year. 10-2. With one loss coming to the no. 1 team on the road (and FSU was down only 3 late fourth quarter). The other loss was from a fluky kick return.

Our 3 losses were absolute disasters. We weren't competitive at all. That's a problem.

Nope. It's not about the number of loses, it's about the quality (or lack there of) of the loses. With the talent year in and year out that LSU has, there is no excuse for being blown out 3 games in a row.

IDK... I've never thought the future of LSU football was so bleak. We burned the bridge with Jimbo, and the administration set a precedent like what we knew in the 90's: "we don't need to spend that much cash on football."

You're telling me that his transgressions are that bad you couldn't him a single game longer? Regardless of who came up with the $$, it's still real money people.

This is an absurd post. The money committed was private and committed solely for the buyout. It wasn't coming out of other TAF funds or any public funds. If private people want to designate their money for this type of donation then more power to them. King tried to make this about the money and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with it.

King folded to outside political pressure and made LSU look even worse than they were already being portrayed in the national media.

1) the buy out this year is 15 million over 8 years
2) the buy out next year is 12.9 million over 6 yrs

so actually, this years buy out is better. ALSO, the buy outs would be reduced by moneys Miles made in his next job so the buyout many have been very small indeed.

all of these other numbers that have been quoted piss me off. they go up to 45 million (that I've seen) and include the new coaches buy out and the new coaches salary and NONE subtracted Miles salary. the math used was a misrepresentation at the best. EVEN IF MILES RETIRES, the buy out for the new coach will have to be paid (and probably asst.s) and the new salary would have to be paid.

MONEY was NOT the issue, at least for those that know how to count. the issues were the national perception of LSU at a time where we are really struggling for money (academics) thanks to our stupid arse legislature and to a big extent our stupid arse voters in not demanding a change. other issues were this years recruiting class AND a small detail.......WHAT IF FISHER GOT COLD FEET? then LSU was on the market and very well could have ended up with a shite hire and lost the recruiting class and paid the buy outs.

You just flat out sound like half of the people who show up for the party, tailgate, and give their ticket away. Little to no understanding of the game of football, or just enough to sound like it. And, that's OK, because it takes all types to support the kind of programs that win NC's.
Holy shite. You got that from that question?

quote:

Jimbo is hands-on with the most important position on the field. For you to even ask why would people be excited about that puts you in a category of posters I rarely even bother to give a response, but it needs to be said.
Again, what?

quote:

Jimbo developed 3 QBs that won NC's with 3 different head coaches. Think about that. Really let that sink in. And while you're thinking about it, go ahead and put that Crimson A on his hat in a couple of years and think about him kicking your team's arse for the next 10 after that.
