I'm in the market for a rain jacket and would like the Ot's advice. I want something lightweight. I already have a black Northface Denali and an LSU Columbia ascender for cold weather. The weather on campus this weekend made me realize how inadequately prepared I am for the weather down here.
TIA.

I had a mountian hardware rain jacket that I bought in like 2006 for around $120 that was great and lasted me 8 years. But the inner lining started to flake and it got to the point that anytime I would move my arm confetti would come out. Also one of the pocket stitching broke. Great jacket for a while before giving out.
A few weeks ago I bought a marmot rain jacket, dont' know the type but it was $99 and I'm digging it so far.

I'll go with the Gor-Tex rain jacket I got while active duty.....you can probably find one in an Army surplus store.

A rubber jacket. Everything else will eventually get wet on the inside

Did you throw it in a washing machine or dryer by any chance? I've had a MH rain shell for about as long and haven't had any issues.

I picked up a Marmot yesterday at Dick's for $60 (sale). Kept me dry all day.

Best rainjacket I've ever owned. I've had mine for about 3 years now. I have the green one (like the one I posted). My wife has a purple one. We both love them.
It was $100 when I got it but yeah I see them on Dick's now for $60.

Marmot, North Face, and Pantagonia all make great jackets.
