"Discrimination is treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which the person or thing is perceived to belong to rather than on individual merit". This situation perfectly fits the definition of discrimination. The amount of attention whore "check your privilege" people that think discrimination has to involve race and feel the need to chime in every time someone uses that word is scary
Whew you need to get off google my friend. I wasn't saying it has anything to do with race. While yes it meets the "definition" of discrimination it isn't because they are a private business and they can discriminate against whoever they want. It is only illegal for the government to discriminate against you. They can hang a sign and say (insert suspect class here) is not allowed and it is perfectly legal.

The story is indeed terrible....if true. You were informed the Emerald Coast Gator Club have reserved the entire restaurant for a watch party, about 150 Gators have RESERVED the entire restaurant for their home games to watch as a club, this was a reservation, and their only request.......NO COMPETING SCHOOLS ALLOWED IN THE RESTAURANT DURING THEIR GAMES. We fulfill that request . I am personally a Seminole, but I realize when they donated over $31,000 in scholarships from these watch parties, I understand. Sorry you cannot understand that.
Report response as inappropriate
Then why the last paragraph of the letter if not directed at LSU fans?

My thoughts exactly. Yelp time.

They have the right to do it. They should also be publicly shamed for allowing such classless behavior at their business

That is definitely what they should have done.
But that is not what was going on the way I read the story. They had a private party in a part of the establishment BUT they also had open tables for the general public as long as they were not obvious LSU fans.
Poor management IMHO.

This actually doesn't make sense. If the group is reserving
"the entire restaurant", why would there need to be any sort of caveat about anyone else coming in and who they may or may not be fans of?

"Poor management" is the understatement of the year.

I'm thinking Harry T's will see a much bigger loss than $31,000 by banning LSU fans. Perhaps they could have just donated all LSU bar tabs to the Florida Scholarship fund. I'm sure after 6 months they could have collected much more than $31K.

writing a yelp review as well.

It's their establishment and they can do what they want. That being said, it is my guess that there have been no instances where LSU fans "physically attacked" members of the Harry T's staff. If these attacks actually happened, any responsible business owner would call the police, file a report and have said attackers arrested. Again, only a guess, but I would wager no such police reports exist.

All I was saying is that people throw that word out all the time saying, "omg somebody is discriminating against me," without knowing anything about it. Yes they are discriminating but people don't understand the difference.

The people defending this are crazy.
It's the business' right to do so. Is it bad for business, yes. Is it bad because Destin is a big hub for beach going LSU fans, yes. I can understand the manager and UF alumni group not wanting LSU fans there because of previous incidents. It is their right. Some of our fans, like every other school, can be trashy. I saw more LSU "fans" starting fights with our own fans than with Florida fans.

Looks to me like you tried to be a smarty pants and instead get called out for your pettiness.
Posted on 10/21/15 at 2:01 pm to Lester Earl
So they would rather have Floridians recycle the money already in Florida instead of having LSU fans bring more money into their state? Makes sense.

So Don says that Harry T's could seat them upon calling them and Harry T's confirms that they only ban fans of the opposing team.
Harry T's then replies on Yelp that the Alumni group reserves the whole restaurant.
Harry T needs to get his PR team in check.

Yea, his Yelp response makes no sense.

If it's all about catering to the Florida alumni association's desire not to have opposing teams' fans in there, then why include the second paragraph mentioning "trepidation" at having LSU fans entered into the restaurant due to their "bad name?"
Busch league, unprofessional, and extremely rude behavior on their part. Will definitely actively avoid there when in Destin.

i think the funniest part is Don(the LSU fan) went there after a wedding, in which he had a LSU hat on.
I think Don needs to find new friends, ones that don't get married on the day of a big SEC rivalry game.
