I'm intrigued about Antoine's, Arnaud's, and Galatoires just from lists that I've seen. How are these 3 places and what is the dress code at each. I'm trying to do nice jeans and polo. I would prefer not to grab the sportscoat from the back of the closet...TIA
I'm not one to care much about what other people wear to restaurants. It doesn't bother me because I don't focus on other diners' clothing when I'm enjoying a meal. I dress in a way I feel is appropriate for the restaurant and in a way in which I feel comfortable. That being said, if it doesn't bother you to wear jeans and a polo in a restaurant where most every other diner will be dressed up a bit more, that's up to you.
Your list of restaurants includes 3 at which most people will not be wearing jeans and one at which a sports coat is required at night. They're considered "nice" restaurants, so I'm assuming you're looking for a "nice" restaurant at which you can go casual.
I would scratch Antoine's altogether, though, regardless of the dress issue. I enjoy eating at one of the old school traditional New Orleans restaurants once or twice a year. I enjoy the atmosphere and the food. I'd go to Galatoire's out of those three. Arnaud's second, though I enjoy going there for brunch very much. It's festive.
You might consider R'evolution. The food is very good and I've seen a few people here and there in jeans. Most will have at least slacks or khakis and a button down or a sports coat. It's a good "anniversary" restaurant. Nice atmosphere, great service and darn good food.
Another more casual restaurant for traditional New Orleans and South LA foods is Bon Ton Cafe, but it's only open on weekdays. Not open Saturday or Sunday.
I agree with Fun Bunch's list, so take a look at those options.
Happy Anniversary!

second this.

Third it. I like R'evolution a lot.
However, I personally would feel uncomfortable in there in just a polo and jeans, although I did DEFINITELY see guys in there in that sort of attire.
Its just such an upscale place I would feel weird. But you certainly can get away with it.
The Quail 3 ways, the Death by Gumbo, etc etc.

And, he could ask for a table against the windows which overlook the hotel patio. That little area is almost sort of separate from the other areas with only a few tables. The patio view is nice. It's almost a bit secluded and sort of private feeling in a way. The area connected to it looks a little more casual than the rest of the restaurant area. I think it's tiled rather than carpeted, but I haven't been back that far. I've only eaten on the street side a few times and the patio side.
I think R'evolution would fit all of his desires and be celebratory for the anniversary.

I've had some solid meals at Muriel's, and the balcony overlooking Jax Sq. is there for pre-dinner cocktails. Lots of cool rooms and an old world FQ vibe. Casual would work there too.

I haven't been to Muriel's in some years and not since the last chef change, but I enjoy the atmosphere and the balcony. It's a solid restaurant above average. I've enjoyed jazz brunch there and dinner a number of times. The price fixed meals are a good value for those trying to budget.
However, the last time I ate there was for Easter Sunday brunch and there was a small menu only available. I wasn't crazy about the choices and my selection wasn't very good, certainly not up to par with other meals there. Service was terrible, though they were packed upstairs and downstairs. It appeared they couldn't handle the number of folks there or they were short on help.

Then Scratch Galatoire's and Antoine's off your list.

Gus left a year or so ago, I think. Could have been longer for all I know. The new chef worked for the Brennan's at a few restaurants and I think he was at R'evolution for little while, so he couldn't have been at Muriel's too long, I guess.

Did brunch at Muriels a few months back. It was as solid as I remembered it. Didn't realize Gus had left.

Antoine's is terrible. The oysters Rockefeller that they invented is terrible. I'd choose either Arnauds or galatiores.

Of the three you mention, Galatoire's is my favorite and is the only one that enforces a dress code

I think we decided on R'evolution but still keeping Galatoire's as a second option and for all concerned I changed my mind I WILL be wearing slacks and a sports coat.
I have another question for you guys.......How is the food at Borgne? It is in the hotel we are staying in so it would be convenient to eat there on Sunday.

good enough to stop in for sure. I think you're making a good choice with R'evolution for your main dinner.

Hit Galatoire's up for lunch. No coat required at lunch, I don't believe.
I've only eaten at Borgne one time and I enjoyed it, but it was shortly after it opened. I've read mixed reviews. I didn't like the atmosphere much at all. It reminded me of a cafeteria. I believe it closed for a bit recently for some renovations, but I haven't seen anything about that. It would not be on the top of my list unless I was headed to something in the Dome and it was convenient. I'd go to Peche instead.

Re'v is a nice choice.
Stop in for a cocktail and a nosh at Borgne but don't bother with a full meal.

quote:I never heard of someone ironing jeans until I moved to the South, much less wearing jeans and a polo to one of the nicest restaurants in the country on your special day. You'd probably feel more comfortable if you dressed up a touch. If you go to Galatoires, you may be the only one in jeans. As previously stated, jackets are required there and if you don't wear one you will be forced to wear one of theirs. If you don't want to wear a sportscoat, forget about Galatoires. Sorry for the unsolicited advice, just my two cents.
nice jeans
I've never had a bad meal at any of those three. Enjoy!

Mine too but it strikes an off note for an intimate anniversary dinner.
If you're willing to venture out of the Quarter, Upperline would be a good choice. Tell them when you make the reservation that it's to be an anniversary dinner and they will go out of their way to make it memorable.
