I know it's controversial, but our gun culture IS the reason why this country has so many more gun deaths than other countries.
It also is a reason no one has tried to invade us since Britain in the War of 1812.

I believe they're talking about common sense changes like better background checks so these mentally ill people can't get guns. Can't this even be discussed without people flipping out?
Clearly not, judging by the score of your comment.
I own several guns but I don't know why people are so scared of the government that they don't think its acceptable to at least make it more difficult for the mentally infirm to obtain weapons.
Common sense gets thrown out the window when the 2nd Ammendment is on the table

I wonder how many of the guns that were used in those mass shooting were purchased legally?

Common sense tells me that 90% + of people were on board for universal background checks yet it was shot down.

Please, list these so-called solutions and detail exactly how they work, include your plan for enforcement and funding. Use empirical evidence to back up your claims too.
Just spitballing:
1) no more automatic handgun sales. Revolvers still legal; ammunition sold at police stations for $10/round.
2) gun "buyback" run by the FBI. No cash, fair market value for the gun in the form of tax credits. (Might be more expensive than that dumbass Cash For Clunkers, but not by much).
3) magazines more than 6 rounds must be destroyed.

More taxes to pay. Great idea. And who's going to enforce that all the bad people give their guns up?

So you want criminals to basically be able to shoot fish in a barrel. This is such a pathetic and weak attempt at trolling.

Anytime I saw the dad or boyfriend interviewed and was asked what the answer was they would almost get this "how dare you" look on his face and never give an answer except my daughter was murdered guns are bad.
They cannot give any specific laws or regulations that would have prevented this. It is all emotions.

Semi-automatic pistols aren't going anywhere and magazines that hold a dozen or so rounds are what it is. That's how much space exists in the grip, that's how many rounds it holds.

Nearly anywhere? You really this insecure with your argument that you make a big deal of loose terminology? Probably the same guy who creams himself when he gets to correct someone calling a magazine a clip. "Automatic" refers to the chamber being reloaded by the act of pulling the trigger. You can call it "semi automatic" if you want but it's not wrong.

Really? You should try it on your lunch break and see how that works out for you.

It just shows you're an idiot spewing stupidity.

Nope.

Not insecure but using the incorrect terminology is how libs and the media scare the ignorant masses.
Just like calling every gun an "assault rifle" because it has some accessories on it.
If you want to have a serious discussion then you should be prepared to use the correct terminology.

What in this guy's background would been have triggered to take away his ability to buy a gun?

here is my 2 cents(disclaimer- I own 7 semi auto handguns, mostly CZ's and 1911's. I shoot 3-4 times a month as a sport/hobby. I keep a glock 19 by my bed for home protection. I love guns and i hate that i live in the most restrictive gun state).
Guns are absolutely a huge problem, anyone who doesn't think so is in denial. Guns absolutely make it easier for people to kill others, much easier then knives or other deadly weapons. If guns ceased to exist the world would be a safer, less tragic place. But here is the conundrum; (as someone stated earlier) we have 300 million guns. Guns are embedded in our society, culture and even our bill of rights. They are just a part of who we are. We are way past the point of eradicating guns, its just not possible. Gun laws and restrictions are pointless. Criminals, by definition, ignore laws. The laws just make things more difficult for law abiding and responsible gun owners. Even if guns were completely outlawed, there are still hundreds of millions in circulation that would wind up in the hands of criminals.
We are a country of 250 million people, there will always be crazy people, angry people, and people looking to kill. There is no solution to these tragedies unfortunately.
edit- I have zero problem with a strict and thorough background check and laws regarding sales of guns(i.e. restricting private cash&carry transactions). The laws that are pointless are the ones that restrict magazine capacity, the "safe handgun roster" of california, etc.
