Tell your friend his numbers are shite. Total horseshite.

You think Mexico, Central American countries and many African countries have a lower per capita murder rate than the U.S.?

Did you just accept his bullshite chart?

I'm sorry but you won't get any serious discussion on here about possible steps to curb gun violence.

Anything you suggest that would possibly make it harder for a criminal to get a gun will be met with such mental gymnastics as "criminals don't buy guns like normal people. Since they don't buy guns at stores like normal people then there is no reason to tighten the requirements to get a gun. Since we can't tighten requirements then there is nothing that can be done."

"So basically, we should do nothing".

That's the type of conversation that goes on around here.

Just say this, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed," and proceed to drop the mic.

Looking at the oft maligned wikipedia at Murder Rates by country in the most recently reported year.

The United States is 111th on the list with 4.7 murders per 100,000 residents. Countries higher than the US include:

North Korea - 5.2 (and they control everything)
British Virgin Islands - 8.4
Russia - 9.2
Cayman Islands (UK) - 14.2
Mexico - 21.5
Brazil - 25.2
South Africa - 31.0
Jamaica - 39.3

The most dangerous country on the list...Houduras 90.4

Yes...China, UK, Czech Republic, and France are all 1.0.
Ireland is 1.2 and Italy is actually 0.9.

LINK

Tell him that Donald Trump said to get rid of the Mexicans and put up a wall, and our murder rate would be the same as our European counterparts...(of course, Trump hasn't said this, but it would make his liberal head explode to turn the discussion from gun control to illegal immigration).

Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Chad, Libya, Syria, Iraq... aww hell... most of the world has higher death by firearm rates than we do. Oh, btw, the day that we had the sandyhook shooting, some loonie in China brought a sword to school and killed like 30 kids... so now we should ban cutlery?

You know what else is illegel? marijuana... Guns arent the problem. Man's intent to do ill will is the problem.

Stop allowing places like Wal-Mart and Bass Pro Shop to sell firearms and ammo. Build precincts at every police station that are manned 24/7 that can sell weapons and ammo to citizens who have the proper documentation and background check approval. Run thumb prints, retina scans, the whole nine yards. You could essentially kill multiple birds with one stone. Most people don't like going to police stations, especially if they have warrants out. When the station runs a background check, if something comes up, they can be arrested on the spot.

Spoken like a true socialist - take economic power away from the capitalist system and give it to the government. After all, they know whats best and they SURELY wouldn't sell firearms to wind up in the hands of drug cartels would they? Go ahead and get Obama fired up with the teleprompter speeches saying stuff like "If you like your firearms, you can keep it!" - the sheep will be BAAAAAAAA'ing all night long!

Since statistics are brought up, what about the gun violence stat that shows gun violence steadily dropping to almost half the level they were in the 70's despite Americans owning more guns today?

When will the USA vs The World comparisons ever stop? Most countries do something's particularly well, while failing miserably at other things. It's easy to make the USA look bad when you keep comparing us against the best that each other country does.

We should start institutionalizing the mentally ill instead of feeding them pills and waiting for them to explode.

Yea the criminals are just walking into bass pro and wal-mart and buying guns. Are you serious? No they are stealing them and obtaining them by illegal ways. The only thing your plan would do is make it harder on law abiding gun owners to buy firearms.

There are A LOT more places with worse murder rates than America

Maybe he'll mention something about Chicago and DC to you, and you'll learn your lesson

There is no gun problem only a problem with the human condition.

More food for thought.

Man shoots another man we blame the gun.

Man shoots beloved lion people go nuts and want to lynch the man.

The most responsible and mature gun owners don't go on Facebook blabbing about guns all the fricking time, hell, you would never know they owned one.

Conversely, it's also not very smart to let everyone on Facebook know that you are NOT a gun owner.

Because giving the government a monopoly over the distribution of firearms is in itself completely against rationale behind the 2nd amendment.

The amendment was in place so that people would have a right guaranteed right to defend themselves in spite of the government (whether that's through government hostility/pressure, or government inability to provide a common defense).
