He posted a chart that said America has 3.7 murders per 100,000 residents. The next closest is Italy at 0.68. So it raised the question how can we control who and how people obtain guns and I think I found the best solution...

Stop allowing places like Wal-Mart and Bass Pro Shop to sell firearms and ammo. Build precincts at every police station that are manned 24/7 that can sell weapons and ammo to citizens who have the proper documentation and background check approval. Run thumb prints, retina scans, the whole nine yards. You could essentially kill multiple birds with one stone. Most people don't like going to police stations, especially if they have warrants out. When the station runs a background check, if something comes up, they can be arrested on the spot.

what other options would y'all suggest?

nah, we both agree that you can't take guns away from law abiding citizens (I explained my incident that happened a few years back where I held a dude at gunpoint who broke into my house while he was doped up on spice). However, there needs to be a way to curtail the criminal activity associated with guns.

How many criminals are buying their guns from Walmart or Bass Pro now? And does anyone actually think they'd go to the local Cop gun shop to buy a gun?

Let the law abiding citizens carry and shoot the criminals, problem solved...

The population of the United states is about 309 million people.

The populations of Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and the entire United Kingdom combined is 320 million.

No shite we have more murders. We also have more people, money, wealth, and power. Eat it Euotrash.

Go post that on his facebook.

Lol. I'm favorable to law enforcement. I know many LEO and they are great people and dedicate themselves to their service. But it is dumb to turn over the selling of guns to police. What if a true bona-fide police state did take over ? Dumbest idea I have heard.

So let the government have the ammunition and control who gets it? Pretty sure that goes against the constitution. The root of the problem is batshit insane people who aren't getting treated for their mental illnesses. Too many people let crazies go by instead of stopping and getting them the help they need. People who are willing to commit murder aren't right in the head and need to be treated as such.

Making it harder for law-abiding citizens to arm themselves is counter-productive when criminals will still steal what they want or get weapons however they can. In the same sense, a person who is dead set on killing someone will do it with or without a firearm.

There's already such a massive existing amount of weapons and ammunition that it would be impossible to affect the amount of gun violence in our country by changing distribution or purchasing laws. Instead of focusing on the tools that murderers use we need to focus on the people sick enough to partake in such heinous crimes by whatever avenue of killing they take.

eta: this is doesn't apply to gang violence well.

1. stop trying to regulate firearms possession
2. start actually enforcing and penalizing persons for breaking existing firearms laws
3. reduce recidivism with mandatory and devastating penalties for crimes committed with a firearm.
4. increase funding for mental health care
5. reduce the regulations preventing citizens to protect themselves and their family with lethal force and make the those laws nationally universal.

I think you don't understand how to read data. Clearly broken down per 100,000 to accurately compare differing populations.

You can argue why, but at least know how to interpret data.

Without doing any searching at all I can name a few that are for sure higher than the US. Mexico, Columbia, South Africa, Venezuela just to name a few off the top of my head. After I post this I will google and see how we compare.

Those types of people don't buy guns at gun shops. You will only be curtailing free enterprise.
