When Did Both Parents Start Taking Kid To School on First Day & Taking Day Off

Listening to radio on drive into work today and it's the first day back to school for Dallas area kids. The talkshow host is talking about how he and his wife brought son to kindergarten last year. Took dozens of pictures etc. They even both took off of work for this momentous occasion.
People began calling in about how they do the same thing every year. They even have professional photo shoots at school, etc.
When did all of this begin? I had the typical first day of kindergarten pic taken in my uniform standing in front of the house. 1 or 2 pics tops and then my mom drove me to school and walked me to class and then left about 5 mins later. That was it. I didn't have pictures taken every year on the 1st day, nor did my mom bring me to class anymore. School bus after that first day of kindergarten from then on out.
Seems like every thing is this huge deal nowadays, which causes these kids to have overinflated senses of importance. I guess it's not their fault when every minor occasion in their life is recorded and has photo shoots, parents taking off of work etc.
I'm glad I grew up in a simpler time to be honest. Made me much more self reliant. I actually had to accomplish things to receive recognition.

You have no idea how these kids are going to turn out.

And my FB is full of moms making these back to school poster things for their kids and making them pose for pics with it.
White people have too much time on their hands.

I have a 1st grader and Kindergartener this year and their mom took a pic with both of them in their uniforms with her phone, I drove them to school and walked them to their classes, and left. The middle school across the street is where my wife teaches so they will walk everyday.
I'm not sure what the deal is with the "new age" parents but they were out in force.

Circle jerk! Circle jerk! Circle jerk!

There was a standup comedian who did a bit on the amount of pictures we take now. I don't remember who it was, but it was hilarious because it was spot on. We tend to way overdue it. I get on my wife all the time about "can we please just enjoy this moment personally without having to have proof?"
Women are especially bad about pictures.

That's why I don't celebrate anything with my kids. Builds character.
Oh, it's your birthday? You just lay there crying. It's your mom that got gutted like a deer. I'm getting presents for her.
Christmas? You think that because some little Jew was born a billion years ago that you should get expensive toys? No, you can get sticks and rocks like I did growing up. That's easier on my Scotch budget.
Oh, you drew me a picture? Looks like you completely forgot that people have bodies Matilda! That thing looks like a rainbow spider. Put it with all the rest, in the garbage.
Oh, you "graduated" kindergarten? I'm so proud you could overcome the monumental task of not overdosing on paste. Horse, Gunther. It's old dead horse you so
gleefully shove in your gullet. Old Macdonald had a glue factory. The world's a harsh place kid.

I don't see anything wrong with the first couple of years doing it. God forbid the kid feel important to his/her parents.

One time in the Summer before Eighth Grade I was in the community pool alone with this girl from my class and she took her top off and let me look at and touch her boobies.
True story!
Talk about being taken to school.

Seems to me like you just feel like complaining about something for the sake of complaining.

Today's parents look for any reason to get out of work. Then they complain that they don't have any money.
Posted on 8/24/15 at 8:31 am to SirSaintly
What gets me are the parents who wait in their cars at the bus stop so their little darlings don't have to walk 100' to get home.

Which leads to shite like the occupy movement because young people are crying that no one is treating them like the special people they are and the cruel world is unfair.
I agree with you. It's ridiculous.

Both my parents took my to kindergarten 23 years ago.
The first day of school is actually a big deal dude. You're 4 or 5 and embarking on the biggest and most important change of your life.
You're name idiot if you think it's weird for parents to go with their kid to the first day of kindergarten.
