I was just there. It is a beautiful place. I was on a cruise so my time was limited but, it was really nice.

Yeah, the wife and I went there for our honeymoon. We stayed at a Sandals. The resorts were really nice, the people were really nice, but outside of there...the island is dirt poor. We saw what appeared to be a side of beef laying on a piece of plywood by the road. The locals were hoping to sell it to someone. It was very strange.
BUT, as far as the resorts...very nice. We enjoyed our time there. I also enjoyed the Piton (local beer).

It's gorgeous.
But when I went (summer 2009) our driver from the airport said make sure to be on your resort at night and never go on any back streets in the cities during the day. Tourists are pretty big targets
But it's beautiful and there are some great resorts

St. Lucia is a place you go to relax and getaway from it all, not to party or do adventure type activities.
Jade Mountain is the best resort on the island, it's sister property Anse Chastanet is a little more reasonably priced. No phone, TVs or radios in the room.

I've been twice. Poor infrastructure. Pretty lazy culture (what island isn't). Beaches are beautiful and water is some of the clearest I have seen.
If you have traveled extensively it is worth the visit but there are a million other places that are better.
I'm heading here in a few weeks.

Great beaches. Avoid any Sandals resort. Some good ones: Calabash Cove, Anse Chastanet, Jade Mountain, Sugar Beach, Ladera.

It's one of those places that if you don't plan to leave your resort it's great.....kinda like Jamaica but more expensive

Honeymooned there in April. Loved it. Stayed at Sugar Beach and did most everything there and ate out for dinner around the island. Great place to relax and get away from everything.

We honeymooned there in April this year. Stayed at Rendezvous. The resort was great.
We hiked Gros Piton and that was a Mother fricker... but it was worth it. You can see 70% of the island from the peak.

Nope...the island is totally uninhabited

Honeymoon there for 7 nights at Sandals Halcyon. Seriously just got back yesterday. As said, island infrastructure is poor, but the resort was fine. Staff is attentive and the views/water is gorgeous.
Probably won't go back though. Thought it was going to be a bit more elegant than it was. Rooms were ok but nothing special. Food and drink felt like I was on a cruise ship a little nicer than a Carnival. I guess you can't expect to be wined and dined extensively at an all-inclusive resort.
Overall probably would have gone somewhere else just because food and drink are a huge priority to me.

I was there in May. It's a real shitehole.
Saw this after walking around, and it really sums it up for me:
ETA: They did have an IGA.
