Beale St restaurants etc...I live about 6 hrs away just looking to do a quick inexpensive excursion to Memphis on a Friday night through sat evening then head back home seen the memphis man vs food episode and would like to try a place or two that he visited also interested in history and music. Just interested in recs from OTers who live in or have visited the area. Not interested in graceland

Where do you live? There has got to be something better within 6 hours of your home than Memphis, TN.

The Memphis Zoo is awesome. Beale St. is just like any other downtown area with bars and restaurants. BB Kings is pretty good. Also have the largest Bass Pro in the US now at the pyramid. If you go to German Town/ Cordova they have a mall called Wolfchase and it's gigantic.

Beale street sucks. Mid town is much better.

I live in mobile. Just looking to get away for a day I've done Nola several times when I was younger not real interested in that right now...seen and done about everything around here. I've traveled through memphis a bunch when i was a kid with my dad on a 18 wheeler but have never spent any time there. He passed away a couple years ago and I guess it's more of a nostalgia trip for me would love to drive to a lot of other places we went to but not a lot of time or money to do it

Beale street doesn't have good food, but Gus's nearby is incredible. Silkys is my favorite bar on Beale or downtown
Midtown and cooper young are cooler areas

Plus, you get to see all the wonderful people who live in the McLemore Ave area.

Memphis can be fun. There is a strip off Beale with cool bars/restaurants where the trolley runs. Best place for ribs downtown is Blues City Cafe. Don't go to Rendezvous. Best ribs in town at Central BBQ. For some reason Flying Saucer is very popular amount locals even though it's a chain.
Omni New Daisy has good bands sometimes.

Was going to check them out

Rendezvous is a cool atmosphere but the food overall isn't that good. I'm in the minority here who like their ribs.

Die From boredom while waiting for a cab to get you the hell out of there. Worst place ever. Example of a conversation with a bartenderin BB Kings bar....him "can I get you something". Me " sure, what's a good local beer?" Him "...... Uh....how about Coors Light?" (Turns out they had a Coors bottling facility there).

I know it's cliche and kinda touristy, but the Sunday brunch at the Peabody was pretty awesome. The price is higher than a cat's arse ($45) and there's nothing to really see up there, but I enjoyed the meal.

Nathan Forrest is buried next door, too (for the moment).
