Well, it looks like there possibly may not be a high school football season this year in Louisiana. What do y'all think?

For what it's worth, they both called into AFR and both of them sounded like assholes.

Replacement high school refs would be awesome.

I only listened to the Officials rep yesterday. While he's not exactly a spokesperson by day he seemed to be straightforward and articulate enough to make the point that principals have demanded more out of them but not paid them based on their additional training.

The officials need to be paid more considering all known facts.. The strategy is designed to force the issue and unfortunately seems to be the only way they could get the proper responses from the LHSAA.

There have been several issues over the years and several things that were promised. To let you know what side i am on, I am an official out of Lake Charles. We were actually considering calling any games we were assigned, but this article here may have put a stop to that. We have done everything that PA has asked for and have gotten nothing in return.

“I’ve heard the argument we haven’t had a raise in the last 20 years and it’s only $5,” Bonine said.

5 dollars four years ago. That's it. And that's what we are asking for this year.

I'm pretty sure there were some adjustments made in 2007, but that may have just been for mileage or a specific level of officials, not an across the board pay increase.
I'm still considering doing basketball this year. May just do some CSAL games for the fun of it instead.

In 2007, we got the five dollar increase after the basketball officials walked out, that's been it. If you go to the LHSOA website, there is an article that details our side of the issue.

Baseball officials get pay raises all the time. They rape the summer league teams in the Baton Rouge area.

That's not LHSAA, that's your local rec/tourney leagues where the officials can actually set their own pay.

They got a pay raise about 6-7 years ago in high school, but I was specifically talking about the high school umps that rake in a lot of money for time limited games for the school ball summer teams.

No offense, but from what I've seen, your pay is commiserate with the quality of officiating your organization puts out

$5 doesn't sound like much, no big deal.
$1800 for some of the small schools is probably a good chunk.
We use MPSA refs, so it shouldn't effect our season. Hope it gets all worked out.

I think Louisiana is still either #49 or #50 in officials pay...

You should volunteer as a replacement. Enjoy the experience.

Referees are the worst. They are trying to make a full time job out of something you do as a little extra money or for the enjoyment. This isnt college or NFL, you arent supposed to be able to live off this money. Plus 90% of the refs are not very good anyway.
All this will do is make the cost to enter a high school football game $10

Is the summer league an lhsaa sanctioned sport?

Football is being asked to carry the flag for many of the other sports. I am glad the LHSOA is holding the line.
one great example is the baseball/softball half game fee.
Those officials are asked to plan ahead, travel and be at the event an hour in advance. Then if the game rains out last minute (a decision to call the game is made by the school administrator) the officials used to get a half game fee. The principals voted to take that away and when they did, they stood up and cheered the vote.
I am a multi sport official. when you add up the equipment that we must purchase every year, and the mandatory camps and training that we pay for out of our own pocket, officials are not just rolling in money at the end of the season.
This year, the contract with the uniform suppliers for many of the sports changed and not i have to buy all new uniforms for games i am assigned. All the cleats, jerseys, whistles, weather gear, etc etc continue to go up in price.
