I guess he'll always be in a 3-point stance now??

I can only hope that the release of this costs schefter his job.

That hospital is royally screwed

.@AdamSchefter You're a real piece of sh*t for putting that picture up!

He's right though, seems unnecessary to do that. But Sheffy gets such a hard on for being first, he likely didn't think it through

Schefter should be more worried about james Harrison than HIPAA. He crazy.

I've learned more about HIPAA in this thread than I previously had.
Thanks to all the experts.

That getting released seems like a huge HIPAA violation.
For the person who took the picture - Members of the media have some protection because of the first amendment.
However, whoever was working for the hospital and either took the picture or made the chart available for someone else to take a picture is in serious trouble. There's no way there aren't firings at the hospital where that chart originated. PP and the other parties whose information was released to the public have an easy lawsuit if they want to go that route.

ESPN did not respond to a request for comment about whether it stood by the decision to share Pierre-Paul's records.
And it is unclear how Schefter obtained them in the first place.
McBride said that even though the HIPAA law does not apply to news organizations, "he could find himself being scrutinized in a legal investigation or civil suit" if a source violated the law. And the player "could have a reasonable expectation of privacy here specifically around his medical records."
From cnnmoney. I hope ESPN burns for this. No way they can say they legally obtained this info without providing a signed ROI from JPP.

When I made that initial comment I was referring to whatever probably low level tech took that picture and released it. I wasn't even thinking media.
With that said, whether it is a HIPAA violation for ESPN to tweet it or not it still seems really unethical.
Can't say I'm surprised though, journalists will do anything to be first on a story.

It's annoying how every Tom, Dick, and Harry wants to spout off about HIPAA violations when someone's medical records are released, yet they have no idea who the law pertains to.
I know your trying to be a know it all smart arse, but it doesn't take an expert to know that someone taking a picture of medical records and releasing them to the ,edit is a clear HIPAA violation.

For those screaming HIPPA HIPPA how do you know that JPP didn't send that pic himself?
Posted on 7/8/15 at 9:39 pm to Boomshockalocka
How is it any different then sheffy breaking a knee injury?
Posted on 7/8/15 at 9:46 pm to Slingin Pickle
Good point, I don't know the answer to that one. Maybe my boy EpicTiger can clear it up...
