Whelen

It's like comparing a 30-30 to a 30-06.

For deer both are good out to about 200. The .35 whelen smokes the Remington after that.

They're two different kind of cartridges. The .35 Remington is an old lever action load, the whelen is a fat .30-06

That's like asking which car is better the Corvette or the Chevette. They will both kill a deer no questions asked. I have a 35 Whelen and it hits like a truck. If your are hunting in the woods either will do. IF your shots are 150 yes and up I would go with the Whelen. The 35 Rem is a damn fine round but more like a dressed up .30-30. I wish I had one .

Congrats on the sore shoulder.

I love my 35 Whelen but sighting it in is an experience.

This. And it's really no comparison.

I have an old Marlin 35 rem and it's a great shooting gun. But if i remember correctly, it starts dropping drastically at about 100 yards.

If shots aren't expected past 150 yards, I'd cast my vote towards the old Rem.
The deer won't know different, but when sighting it in your shoulder WILL.

Assuming you are talking about lightweight rifles such as a handi rifle.

35 Whelan is a 9mm projectile in a 30-06 case.

The 35 Remington is a much smaller case and smaller projectile. You'll get much more muzzle energy from the Whelan. I'll pray for your shoulder though.

Thanks for all the input. It will be a gun I only use during primitive week and shots are less than 150 yards.
