Apparently Tattoos of Semicolons are a thing. Here's what they mean

You may or may not have seen these drawings and tattoos of semicolons while browsing one of your social media feeds.
But these tattoos and drawings aren’t celebrating a punctuation mark; they actually have a deeper symbolism.
quote:
According to the Huffington Post, in 2013, Bluel tragically lost her father to suicide. She wanted to honor her father as well as raise awareness for mental health issues.
So she founded a non-profit organization named Project Semicolon. The goal of the project is to restore hope and confidence in people who are troubled by addiction, depression, self-harm, and suicide.
The non-profit encourages these people to draw or tattoo a semicolon on their wrist.
quote:
The symbolism of the semicolon is explained on Project Semicolon’s website,
“A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.”
By encouraging people to share their marks and stories, Project Semicolon seeks to instill hope and open up a dialogue about mental health.

Maybe they sometimes take it up the colon...

Scruffy guesses Project Colon wouldn't have done as well.

Seems harmless enough. And if the tattooey regrets it later they can just add a ")" and make it a wink smiley face.
Or if the person does take their own life later then they can just add a "(" I suppose.

The founder of the "movement" has one that's tattoo'd on:

I bet those people absolutely love when people ask them what that tattoo is so they can spout out how great they are for raising such "awareness"

Is that a female or male?
Why do all the people who start things like this look so damn ambiguous?

They can add a dot and two circles and it'll be a cooties shot.

Considering men make up the overwhelming majority of suicide victims in this country, I'll take anything that brings attention to mental health. "Man up" isn't helping anyone.
