Tom Hanks
Can't really agree. When one delivers Oscar-quality performances in Hanks' roles from Big, to Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, SPR, Cast Away - and continue to mature into roles such as Charlie Wilson - and go back and look at various early comedic films such as Splash, Bachelor Party, The Money Pit - and see the effort and overall quality of performance he's delivered - Hanks is the closet to a modern day Spencer Tracy as we have, period.
quote:
Anthony Hopkins
Disagree.
quote:
Al Pacino
Robert De Niro
I categorize these two together as they came up together - and I agree. Deniro probably a little more range and a better comic actor (see Midnight Run - perhaps his most underrated performance) - Pacino only has one gear - and he delivers it wonderfully, but once you've seen his core films Godfather 1&2, And Justice for All, Dog Day Afternoon, Scarface and Scent of a Woman - you've seen every wrinkle he can throw. Both brilliant actors - don't mistake me - but both hurt themselves by doing too much in their declining years and watering down their earlier, high quality bodies of work.
quote:
William Hurt
Completely agree - is solid, but nothing ever really stood out.

Agree with these two. And I can see the argument for Pacino, but I'd add:
Johnny Depp
George Clooney
Morgan Freeman
Does anyone really consider Hurt a "great," actor? I mean if so, yeah he's overrated, but I've never heard that. I completely disagree on De Niro.

I find it odd that Harrison Ford never makes these lists.
Talk about overrated.
Talk about overrated.

Kevin Costner. He plays the exact same person in every role. Kinda like Keanu Reeves.

Gonna be an unpopular choice with the fanboys but I think RDJ is overrated.

Bro... Brad Pitt has range.
Just off top:
Alexander
Fight club
Benjamin button
Inglorious bastards
Fury
All different roles. If you think inglorious bastards and fury are the same then idk what to tell you.

Honestly, I'm not sure how you even define "overrated" when it comes to actors.

Nah. I guess he gets a little type cast but he's legit. Fear and Loathing alone sealed that.
Tom Hanks overrated? I'm not a huge fan but dude has played pretty much every role possible. Give me a break.
Who do you guys consider legit?
And the person who said Gary Oldman? GFY.

Fury was poor man's Inglorious Bastards, but i Hated Fury.
Go watch Snatch if you don't think Pitt has talent. He invented that badass accent FFS.

Streep - maybe the most overhyped actress in Hollywood history DaCaprio Sean Penn McConaughey Bradley Cooper, the anti-Christ
Decaprio has done some great roles. He has shown good range in his acting and has had some great movies. He is far from Overated.
Sean Penn - I despise him but he has a few good flicks.
Bradley Cooper - I wouldnt say he is overated. He has some good movies to include comedy on his resume that alot of actors just woulnd't be a good fit for.
Mcconaughey - MUD, True Detective, etc etc etc. If anything, he is vastly underated.
Your list just doens't fit for me.

People who say this haven't seen silver linings playbook. I used to hate BC, mainly because of The Hangover but after watching this, I really like him.
It's hilarious and he's awesome in it.

It's a great movie and he plays the bi-polar thing pretty well. I laughed pretty hard at him up in his parents bedroom berating them over a book at like 3 in the morning.

How is DDL over rated? He literally only gives performances that are Oscar worthy.
