OT Parents: How old to take first vacation without baby/child?

We had our first child back in December, so she's 5 and a half months old. I'm batting around the idea of taking a maybe a three day trip with the wife sometime this fall, something like a leave Wednesday come back Saturday. Our daughter will be around 10 months old by then. We have my parents here in BR, and her parents in NO, where we'd fly out from presumably. So, is 10 months too young to leave our baby with family for a few nights? How did you and your husband/wife handle your first significant time away from the kids?
Personally, though I'd miss my daughter, I'm ok with it. I'm more concerned with how my wife would handle it and what/if I should suggest anything to ease her concerns and want to make the trip, or just accept all vacations for the foreseeable future will include children.

Is she still nursing? that makes it hard to leave for more than a day. If not then 3 days isn't a big deal.

Not normally, but depends on your kid, your parents and/or your wifes parents.

Good luck with that. SHe's going to be a mess when she leaves the kid the first time.

Me and the wife took a 3 day weekend for our anniversary when my daughter was 4 months old.
We called my parents constantly, but we were still able to have a good time.

shoooooooot, I'm already thinking about a trip away from the baby and the baby isn't even here yet. Maybe that will change when it shows up.

Our son is 8 months and we've spent a few weekends away from him. I think he was 3 or 4 months and he spent two nights at the in laws when I was working out of state and my wife was in a good friend's wedding. Breast feeding is the only real concern if you have competent and trustworthy people to care for your kid. It was never difficult to leave him with family. Really hard to leave him at daycare, but I never really had an issue with family.

and my daughter has spent a week away at my parents twice now in her 2 years
alone time with your spouse is important
it can't be about the baby/kid all the time

Did I tell him what the right answer is? Nope.

We took one or two 3 day trips before 10 months, and we took a 5 day trip when he was 10 months. When he was nursing, the wife just pumped some extra bottles and it worked.
My wife had to leave for 3 days when he was around 3-4 months, and she hated it. By the time we took the trips, there were no problems, other than probably annoying our parents with checking in. By 10 months, both of you should be fine and welcome a break. Just keep in contact.

Yes, but she works full time and pumps every day. We've got a freezer filling up with "liquid gold"

For someone that's going to be a Grandpa for the first time this November, I welcome it when they (daughter & SIL) want some alone time......this way I get unobstructed opportunities to spoil the grandchild with no interruptions!!

My kids are 12 and 15 years old and we have never taken a vacation without them.
