Are transgender thoughts a mental disorder of some sort?

Bruce Jenner does not have any physically female characteristics. He does not have ovaries. He does not have a vagina, nor was he born with one. He has 1 Y chromosome. Bruce Jenner is a man, 100%, with a mental illness. The current promotion of genital mutilation as a treatment for mental illness is on the same level as the proscription of lobotomization for people with Schizophrenia in the 19th century. Physical mutilation has never been a humane treatment for the mentally ill, and yet psychiatry continues to find new ways to inflict it on the most vulnerable of society. What is being done in the name of 'gender freedom' is insane, inhumane, and repulsive. If Bruce Jenner believed himself to be a dog, would anyone argue he should have his fingers cut off and his pelvis broken so that he would more closely resemble a dog to an observer? The answer is no, but that is exactly what is being lauded now as the treatment.

In fact, of all the physical mutilations over the years that psychiatric 'medicine' has prescribed over the years (electro-shock, lobotomization, Exorcism, the list goes on), genital mutilation and removal might be the most dangerous and destructive to the patient. No demographic in America has a higher suicide risk than people who have undergone genital mutilation due to mental illness.

There is statistically nothing worse that a doctor can do to increase the suicide chances of their patient than prescribe gential mutilation. No one is changing genders; we are just inflicting physical harm upon vulnerable people and then calling it medicine. We should be pitying Bruce Jenner; not for his desire to get treatment for his mental condition, but for the acts inflicted upon him in the name of gender freedom and psychiatric experimentation.

Homosexuality would probably be a mental illness by the strictest definition.

So you think "identifying" as a woman, having surgery to become a woman, dressing like a woman, changing your name to a womans (although, still being attracted to women), even though you are actually a man....is perfectly sane, reasonable thinking?

ETA: If we are going to claim that someone who has to touch a doorknob in even numbers or have their TV volume in increments of 5 has a "disorder", then bruce jenner mf'in certainly qualifies.

As a layman, I'd think yes to transgendered and maybe to homosexuality.

Homosexuality likely impacts a much larger swath of the population, but nonetheless it is a pretty small minority of people. Maybe the argument is that you can live the lifestyle productively and treatment likely won't work. But, with regard to the treatment question, how is being gay that different from pedophilia or some other attraction disorder? Note that I'm not comparing them on a moral basis, simply in how many people are impacted by it and whether or not you can treat it other than abstention.

In sum, I think it makes sense to label both as disorders, and perhaps attempt to treat people with transgender issues. But the label can be applied without significant stigma (having OCD vs. having an attraction to children). Maybe there is a threshold for those classifications someone can tell us about.

How is it not? It is disordered by our very own nature. Care to make a logical argument instead of an emotional one?

Mainstream society would have you believe hyper and active kids are "wrong" and should be medicated, while they encourage genital mutilation in kids.
