I just missed the boat on the G8 GXP by about 2 months. Was tracking them for a while, but bought a house first and didn't have the means for a few months. I still regret it as I haven't found a better car.
I like the SS, but feels very lackluster. Interiors are always key. While the SS is vastly improved from G8, still a little meh for a $50k car. But the power train is incredible. Underwhelmed by Charger too.
ATS-V is still top of my list right now.

Assuming you are excluding the Vette?

415 hp does not make a quality vehicle, Americans have always thrown hp at a problem that has very little to with hp. Give me 60% of that power and a car that's not a POS.

You are such a killjoy. You know who else throws horsepower at cars that don't need it? BMW's M division.

Agreed. Still, that'd be a fun rental. I have Mazda 5 this week and the sport trans feature is kind of fun. The control surfaces inside are nice as well.

Not sure if I like the styling, but that sure wouldn't stop me from taking around the block or two. 415/415 will still get you there in a hurry.

That platform is pretty well-sorted. Plus they've eliminated the crappy Pontiac switchgear. Pretty solid car overall.
Single marque people are boring.

That gold 'bow tie' on the grill is some kind of ugly...

That would more likely be the Cadillac ATS.

I doubt the BMW is quaking in their boots.
Not much for $50K that is better choice for performance and value, though.

E39 M5, produced between 1998 and 2003, comes from a high-water period for BMW road cars
One of the best cars ever.

That was a neat read. I have the last naturally aspirated manual 5 series (E60), albeit an inline 6, and I hope to keep the girl on the road for another decade at least...mainly because I know there is no replacement in the picture. Hell, I hope Chevy sells a shite ton of these and the market shifts back to naturally aspirated manual sedans. Mercedes was crushing BMW with mpg ratings and so now everything is twin turboed. Americans could very well keep the manual alive in sedans though, and I hope like hell we do. I'm glad this car is being produced and I hope it does well.

So glad they made the 6-speed Tremec an option!
I wish I could say the same for the new CTS-v. It will have Chevy's new 8L90. While the shifts will undoubtedly be faster, there won't be nearly as much driver involvement. That's all part of the thrill for guys who want to drive the car rather than the other way around.
That's why I'll be perusing the used market in the next 2 years for a 2nd gen CTS-V - 4 doors and 556 horsepower. Plus simply changing the supercharger pulley can get you near ZR1 horsepower levels. Yum.

I hope so, but dang, even the new Vette is ordered with an 89% automatic bias. You can get the new F-Type with a stick, but not on the R cars.
Rowing gears is disappearing.

Rowing gears may be, but manually shifting them is not.
I'm a big fan of the new autos personally. Rowing gears is fun on occasion, but it's cumbersome and "slow" by today's standards. If the car still gives me full control of the gears with the press of button without a clutch, I'm all for it.
Even all the new manuals come with rev matching, no lift shift, and other features that improve the performance and experience, all while reducing driver involvement.
