1) He's been our best OL for two years running
2) PFF has graded him as one of the best RTs in football over that span
3) Over that two year period, he has missed one game.
4) He just signed a very reasonable deal last offseason, 5 years, $20m
5) Cutting or trading him saves us $2.1m this year, but only $200k next year.

He's on a reasonable deal and only gives us marginal savings over the next two seasons. Most importantly there's absolutely no reason to think that Peat will come in as a rookie and immediately be one of the best RTs in football. I'm just flabbergasted by how many people seem to think that we just made a huge upgrade at RT.

You nailed it!

My thoughts exactly.

So where is our first round pick going to play?

Beat out Armstead? Negative
Beat out Strief? Negative

Play guard? Negative

Move Strief to guard? You dont move one of the highest graded tackles to guard. That's nonsense.

We are picking best available. I think with latest additions at CB will help out a lot. Cam Jordan and Junior led the league in QB hurries, our pass rush will be fine. There is good value with guard in the draft. Our true only need in this draft is MLB. It was a good pick and Strief is getting older.

The Saints are aware of all of this. I'm going to assume they have a good reason for making this pick.

Yeah, Cam Jordans rookie deal is about to be up.

I'm not eager to pay him 10 million a season.

If you think Streif won't play forever I get that, but Jesus don't draft a backup in round one.

If you are going to "draft for the future" draft a pass rusher to rotate in as a rookie and gives you options when Cam is a FA next year.

It adds depth to the line.. It gives you flexibility to put the best 5 on the line. If Strife has more life left you try and plug somebody at guard. But you don't draft an OT that early in the draft to sit and learn.

look at 2011 and 2012.

I like Strief but for awhile there when our O-line was solid nobody missed many games.

talking about 2006-2010.

i mean i don't hate the pick at all but where will he play? Moving Strief to guard? We'll see.

If he plays good this year with all the fat we trimmed from bad salaries this season I would gladly pay that for a good DE.

And he's given up about 6 or 7 sacks in the last 2 years over 2,000 snaps.

Only idiots think he's garbage
