10 fish and a limit on white trout?

no offense, but I can decide whether or not I feel like cleaning 25 specks on a given day. some times I do, some times I don't. Last thing I want is you making the decision for me. FTR, I only get to fish a few times a year. If I get a chance to catch a limit I do so. If I fished daily or even weekly, I'd probably do it differently. But I don't so I take advantage of the laws as they are written. I also shoot a limit of ducks if given the chance. I dont feel bad about it at all.
You do realize you basically agreed with everything he just said...you just repeated it

Seems to be a lot of weekend warriors who are upset with their inability to consistently catch fish.
Let's blame BP for our stubborness to move around.

I'm not trying to guilt trip you. You're only entertaining the arguments that want and avoiding the others. It's not about the limits, it's about abusing the limits. You do realize that if you ate 4 fillets a week, you would only need to limit out four times a year? This is what makes the the 25 fish limit awesome. It's the people who stack the fish like cord wood in their chest freezers that need to reevaluate their practices.
Definitely eat more than 4 per week. that's a low number there. plus, I don't know anyone besides guides who actually go limit out every few days. we make trips and limit out 4-5 times a year specifically targeting trout. plus the inlaws get a lot of my fish because they don't fish.
we mainly target redfish, and usually only keep them under 20" at that, but if we run into a school of trout, i'll catch my limit there.

I want to chime in on this but I am swamped right now. I see CCA is already being blamed for not supporting decreased limits when the science says that stocks are healthy. figures.
I may have time later...

I'm blaming CCA for putting a bounty on our breeder size trout as a way to generate revenue. I would also like to see them offer programs to educate anglers on how our population of sport fish can be protected. I get it, you're a CCA supporter but sometimes it's hard to see the forest through the trees.
I never said CCA should support a limit change, only that they should educate people on treating our big fish with care.

We got in the mess in the first place because people are too stupid to make decisions on their own.
The government is smarter than individuals?
That's news to me.

I have eggs in 12" trout all the time...

If you would have kept reading rather than getting triggered, you would have seen that I'm for educating people so that they can make their own decisions without the help of the government.

Bitch all you want about CCA, but they've done excellent work IMO. Times are good in the angling world.
what was the purpose behind this stupid thread anyway?

It's just a subjective argument like all the ones that rustle jimmies around here. But yeah, it's stupid and we have ridden this carousel before.

LOL... you seriously think this is the issue (there isn't an issue at all) with the trout population? A few dozen "breeder" trout that get weighed for the STAR tournament?
Trout reach sexual maturity by 12-14" length - approximately 2 years old. They then spawn multiple times each summer until their death, usually around age 5-6. Fish that are kept and weighed for the STAR Tournament are likely much older than 5 years and have already spawned at least a dozen times.

As long as DWF is using the accepted science to manage the fishery, all is well. All the rest is stupidity.

Go back and look at the amount of eggs produced by a 2yr old fish vs a 5yr old fish.
Sure a 12 inch trout is fertile but a 27 inch trout produces 4 or 5 times as many eggs.

i guess i'm the only guy on here that is old enough to remember NO limit, size or number, on specs. we used to load the ice chest with "cigar specs". so did everyone else. 25 fish per person is fine. the only ones that would want to see it reduced are the guides because it makes for a shorter workday for them and easier to say their customers caught their limit.
great grandfather used to catch fingerlings and throw them in the box saying, "that one will disturb the grease"
