pump the brakes kid! While the US may not be angelic at all times, and our value can vary day to day, there is NO OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD that behaves, for the most part, with our benevolence and magnanimity. Nor is there any other country that has continuously proved to be the most valuable, vital participant for the well being of the rest of the world. No other country can provide what we have provided- both good and bad. Moreover no other country has shown a willingness and the ability to intervene on the behalf of others for their betterment.
It may not always have turned out as one hoped, but no one has ever stepped up and been the leader the US has (historically). And that is part of what makes us THE superpower in the world. And thus our currency carries meaning.

I'm still not convinced that cryptocurrency will ever be a viable alternative to traditional currencies.
That is not the future of cryptocurrencies. That was the developers intent, but in their zeal they ending up creating what will likely end up being a very useful product in global capitalism.

Bitcoin was never a threat to the dollar, or any real currency. What it was and what it's successors will eventually be is a cheaper and far more efficient medium of exchange between currencies and transaction network. I think it's a very real possibility that in the future such currencies could hammer companies like paypal and western union, and severely eat into credit card merchant fees.

Bitcoin is likely headed past $300 this year, so unless you bought in really late, not sure why you wouldn't hold on to what you have. It will eventually hit $500 again.

I bought in at 800 and have been holding it gradually buying more. If you think it's only going to 500 you have another thing coming. By the end of this year it will be in the thousands and as bitcoin revolutionizes the world it's value will only soar higher

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for BTC. Monopoly money is more stable than the currency of Zimbabwe.

I'm so glad that I took your advice and did not buy into this Bitcoin fad. I almost did until reading your posts when the board first started talking about it. You should feel so proud that you were able to influence so many.

Don't know anything about influencing anyone. But if you did really not buy into Bitcoin based on my posts on the matter, I'm glad to have saved you some money.

So what other reason is it used to trade oil? Why is it the benchmark for world currency trade? Is it because it's prettier than the other countries?

No. LSUToo only mined and traded them. He never had visions of rainbows and unicorns about coins. He also mined other coins like DogeCoin.

You do realize the dollar is just made out of paper and has no real security right? Plus anybody can make copies and counterfeit and drive down the market value. Bitcoin is a much safer currency because it's decentralized with no central location and uses a space age algorithim that provides ultimate security

Us early bitcoin adopters will soon be the true masters and the luddites who held onto their paper fiat currency will be at the bottom of the pyramid. Soon we will see a complete revolution of society as people wake up and see that bitcoin is the future of humanity.

that was a funny/extreme example, but it's a lot more stable than many middle eastern, south american, and eastern european currencies, too

when unrest occurs like in cyprus a few years ago, you can see how cryptocurrencies are a valuable hedge

i mean people don't laugh when gold becomes the "it" hudge, and look at this chart:

gold faced many of the same issues, funny enough, in a very close temporal time
