Anyone ever lived in Hawaii?

I'm planning a vacation there this winter.
I keep kind of wondering what it would be like to just stay there and make a living? I'm young, debt free, single. I have my college degree. A part of me thinks this is the kind of decision that would be very difficult to make, but I'd thank myself 20 years from now.
But I have no idea what living there is like. Nor do I know anyone who has lived there. I don't know what the Job market, daily life, or anything is like. My degree is in accounting so I'm sure I could find some job.
The biggest difficulty would be being away from my family. But they have money and could afford to fly and visit, and I would be able to fly and visit them.
99% chance I'm too big a pussy to make such a big move, but I'm pondering it

Don't be so sure about finding a job. Especially of you're a haole not in the medical field.

Have you ever visited? Spend a little time there...go to a couple islands, see if it's your bag.
Everything is more expensive there, but if you make a decent living and live within your means you'll be okay. I know a few Hawaiians and people that have lived in Hawaii. It's a small place, and I've heard stories of people feeling trapped in a small place after living on the mainland.

3 years thanks to the military and your tax payers dollars.
It was amazing, made awesome money due to it. Lived in paradise for a portion of my life. Does get old being on such a small spot for so long though and plane tickets back to the mainland are quite costly.
Still paradise though.

Now that you've considered it you have to do it. If not you'll hate yourself in 20 years and blame your miserable life on being too much of a pussy to go for it. This will most likely cause you to beat your wife.

I could imagine it getting old after a while, it's tiny ! beautiful but literally small, kind of trashy. Lots of homeless people, graffiti and trash on some of the hikes. I wish people tool care of it, also wish there were less hotels!

Pro tip - you won't need your jacket. Unless you're planning to scale Mauna Kea anyway.
Most beautiful highways anywhere though.

Fyi Oahu is not like what you picture Hawaii to be. Like someone else said, very trashy, lots of homeless, traffic sucks, the locals hate white people (haoles).
I did visit Maui and the big island and both were a lot more like the hawaii I pictured. But I imagine its a lot harder to get a job there too.

Oahu can actually get pretty chilly in the winter.

Eh, if you think that's bad you should visit Guam. Looks a lot like Hawaii, only much more run down. Median's with grass 2 feet high in between the roads.

I'm jealous. I went once but here's the REAL Hawai'i.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

I'll take my chances.

I grew up in Honolulu. My dad was a pastor there. I loved it and I visit every summer. Living in Honolulu (especially Hawaii Kai) is like living anywhere else except super expensive. Plus all the beautiful scenery and beaches... Plus the culture is different and a bunch of other stuff so its actually quite different unless you have a job lined up or have a rich daddy funding you, you shouldn't just move there. Its expensive and you will miss your family on the mainland (its expensive to visit home). My buddy works at my old church and rents a room from some rich old couple he found on craigslist for 800 a month, granted, Hawaii Kai is super expensive. If you want more info I could give you a more detailed post. I just posted things that came to mind
ETA- if I could live in Hawaii these are the places I would consider
1) Hilo, Big Island
2) Kailua, Oahu
3) anywhere on Maui

Not if you live in the really nice part.
