Lived in Hilo for school for 2 years. Was tons of fun. Played baseball, and we sucked, but it was great. Experience of lifetime and helped immerse me in a different culture.

May have stayed there but was white so I couldn't get a job. Very happy for my time there but haven't been back since the day I graduated.

My company operates on a number of the islands...the touristy stuff is wonderful and the natural beauty of the place is just shocking...

however, the society is not the best with a good bit of drugs, etc....

I was actually offered a job there one time and ended up turning it down, mainly due to the bias against white people...

Funny thing about being young, single, and debt free. You can always do something different if it doesn't work out for you. Let your balls drop down and go live life the way you want Mr. Accountant fancy pants man.

Yeah, it sucks when a large amount of people treat you differently because of the color of your skin.

Just do it. I love Hawaii. We are going back in October. The only thing I can say is bad is the time difference. Saints games may be on at 7am on Sunday Am. LSU games could be on at 2pm. After 5 pm, there is no live sports going on anywhere. Night time can be lonely and boring if you depend on mainland stuff for entertainment.

Just do it man... You can always come back if you don't like it. I am jealous.

Exactly. 52 ain't warm. Neither is 65.

52 twice in a century - like I said, I'll take my chances.

65 and sunny can be very nice. Again, you don't need a jacket. If you can't handle 60 degrees a few days out of the year then just huddle inside a building with the tourists from Canada.

Everyone will tell you that when you get there

exactly...surely wasn't something I was used to as a white guy growing up in the south...

have to say, just that realization made me a lot more tolerant and open minded....

I keep kind of wondering what it would be like to just stay there and make a living? I'm young, debt free, single. I have my college degree. A part of me thinks this is the kind of decision that would be very difficult to make, but I'd thank myself 20 years from now.

Just go out there for a few months and find out. I've always wanted to do something like that.

I mean, if you are going to be homeless....it's not a bad place.

One of my good friends grew up and lived there for 18 years until he moved here for college. He doesn't miss it. From what he's told me, it's an awesome place to visit, but not live long term.
