I've got two more to add just for the sake of mentioning a rap show and a small show:
Snoop Dogg/ Wiz Khalifa/ Lupe Fiasco at the Schaeffer Eye Center Crawfish Boil in Bham 2012
Anytime I've seen Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires at Bottletree

Depends what genre
but actual concert and not a festival
Id go with Linkin Park, Korn, POD and Sev back in 2004
or Jay-z, 311, NERD, Hoobastank sprite liquid mix tour

Even though I've been to many concerts in my many years, I still say it was Grand Funk Railroad on the We're An American Band tour in Lake Charles. The place was insane, and the front page of the American Press had a picture of the floor of the Civic Center, totally destroyed. The olds were in shock.

STS9 at Red Rocks.

Cream, The Inglewood Forum, 1968: The band was really on that night, they really wanted to be there, blowing people's minds. Quality LSD was a big plus, too.
The Doors, Hollywood Bowl, July 5, 1968: My first big concert experience (outside a club). The Hollywood Bowl is a great place for a concert; plus it was part of a three-day weed/hash/LSD binge.

Mew - Richards on Richards - Vancouver, BC - April 3, 2007 - amazingly beautiful show in a fantastic venue that closed shortly thereafter.
dredg/Division Day - The Warehouse in Shreveport October 25, 2008 - First, we ran into Drew from dredg beforehand and hung out for while. They had just finished up in the studio for The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion and Drew had just received a mix for them to review. Well, he ran inside and got it, then came back out and sat in my car as we all heard what would become the album for the first time. It was amazing. Then, I learned about Division Day, who put on a great show opening. Then dredg put on a fantastic show before their set ended and multiple drunks fell over without the crowd to hold them upright.

Kid Rock/Uncle Cracker/Lynard Skynard ranks pretty high up there also.
Believe it or not but Kenny Chesney put on an awesome concert at the NO Areana a few years ago

1. Metallica - Jun 15th 1992 - PMAC
- number 1 because it was my first concert.
2. Hum/Toadies/Bush - 1995 - PMAC
- This show marked my first date ever, also got to see Hum perform for the first time pressed against the wall in front of the stage. (thought i might pass out at one point)
3. Tool - March 10 1997 - Austin Music Hall
- "Borrowed" my mother's car, skipped school, and drove to Austin from Baton Rouge for this amazing show.
4. Smashing Pumpkins - February 5th 1997 - UNO Lakefront
- The Pumpkins never sounded better, this show was amazing.
4. NOFX - 1995 i think - Jimmy's New Orleans
- number 1 because it was my first concert.

I don't know that I can call a best, but there are some I enjoyed more than others:
Pink Floyd at the Superdome in 94
Jason Isbell at Luckenbach
Old 97's at Gruene Hall
