LAst year was Hugos, Pondicherri, Mala Sichuan, underbelly, Uchin, blue nile, indika, lemon tree

Thinking about west Alabama ice house (we will be bringing the dog), indika or Himalayas, pass or oxheart, caracoal, anvil, Uchi happy hour (any other good happy hours?),...persian, african,...

We are next to the galleria...dog friendly stuff is much appreciated.
As well as bars or things to do. How is the big tet festival downtown? Ethnic groceries or farmers markets are also great for us...
we have six meals...

It looks like you have a lot of great spots already picked out. Roost and Pax Americana are 2 restaurants I'd add to your list. I'm not big on African food, so I've got nothing there.

Phoenicia is a great little Mediterranean store. Hong Kong mall for Chinese. Patel Brothers for middle eastern. Airline Supermarket for Latin.

Common Bond, Barnaby's, and local foods for lunch

For Happy Hour in the Galleria, I would probably do Caracol, RDG Bar Annie, or Dish Society. Other good ones are Anvil, Benjy's, Hay Merchant, and Boheme.

I'm partial to the bars downtown because I used to live there. Pastry War, Captain Foxhearts, Hearsay, El Big Bad, La Carafe, Okra, Public Services, etc. all make for great bar hopping within a 2-3 block radius. Though, it's gotten a pretty trendy over the last few months and with that comes the dbag crowd.

I'm sure Offshore will show up with some more good recs.

If you go to La Carafe again, be sure to check out Public Services. It's a fairly new bar a block away that was opened by Justin Yu from Oxheart.

Take a trip down westheimer and go to the Millie Bush Dog park. Your dog will appreciate it. You can also hit up the Phoenicia market (get some cheese and zatar flatbread by the bakery inside) close to it on westheimer.

Golden Palace does a nice dim sum. Fungs Kitchen,
SinhSinh or Tan Tan in Chinatown are good. There is a nice Asian market next to Lai Lai dumplings as well as the Hong Kong Mall.

Biryani Pot on westheimer for authentic south indian food. Biryani is very similar to jambalaya.

Great patio area, food is really good. I highly recommend the sloppy joe burger with egg on top!

Great bar with pretty good beer selection, and also has a good whiskey selection. They are also dog friendly.

if your into the Asian grocery store thing, then either H-Mart on the corner of Blalock and Westview or Ranch 99 on the corner of 1_10 and Blalock.

H-Mart is more Korean and Ranch is more Vietnamese to me. Both have great food courts.

They are within a mile or so of each other so you can easily do both.

Polonia

Get the big combo plate for 2- it comes on a giant metal tray with sternos and is loaded.

To my knowledge the only Polish restaurant in east Texas and Louisiana.

How long are you staying? My mom works in River Oaks/ Galleria area and all the top restaurants in the area cater to their office m. I'll ask what the best ones are.

As for happy hours, I know Chuys in River Oaks used to have a damn good one w/ free chili con queso included.

If you find a random family hole in the wall spot, they will most likely have $2-3 margaritas

Look up the best pho near you as well. One of the best in the city is five mins from the galleria (can't remember those Vietnamese names )
