for italian, giacomo's down westheimer ... they are really humming right now crowd wise ... not upscale ... just a very solid, nice little restaurant ...

i'm sure someone's mentioned the original ninfa's on navigation ... for just simple but solid tex-mex, lupe tortillas makes the best fajitas ...

there's a farmer's market on richmond on saturday mornings ... 8-12 ... don't know how much food they serve, but they serve breakfast for a bit ... biscuits and crepes ...

Phoenecia Deli 12151 Westheimer has excellect shwarma and shwarma salad.. It's the best shwarma I've had anywhere. There's also the Phoenecia Market, located in the same parking lot and if you like Persian, Cafe Caspian is excellent. Also in the same shopping center.

No mention of Coltivare yet?

Oporto Fooding House, BCN Taste &Tradition, Roost, Pax Americana, Killen's BBQ, Prohibition Supper Club....take a look at The Kipper Club's website to find out if they might be doing a dinner the weekend you're in town. Common Bond, Local Foods and Liberty Kitchen River Oaks for some lunch/casual places.

Bars that haven't been mentioned-Julep, Wooster's

If you want Persian-Kasra
African-Blue Nile, Afrikoko, Lucy's
Al Aseel for some great Middle Eastern fried chicken

If you don't mind driving a bit and want some fantastic BBQ, check out Killen's Barbecue in Pearland. Odd to be out in the burbs, but it's listed in Texas Monthly as among the best in the state. Be ready for a wait though unless you go after 1:30 or so. I live in Pearland and I rarely get to eat there because the line is already forming at 10:00 in the morning and it doesn't open until 11:00. Also, they only do lunch, so don't plan on dinner there. One of the few BBQ places I've seen that does pork belly. Killen's also has a high end steakhouse in Pearland that is also renowned in the entire city.

Underbelly does a pretty decent food happy hour with "covers" at their wine bar.
