My sister n law and friends will be in the city for the first time Friday thru Thursday. One of her party is a professional chef so good restaurants are a must. They will probably do one fine dining and the rest poboys, seafood etc. THey want to avoid real the tourist places. They are staying in the Garden District near the trolley. The only thing I have planned for them is going to see Rebirth at Maple leaf on Tuesday. I also will have them go see live music on Frenchman st. Where and what night does Kermit Ruffins play? Any other good acts playing in this time frame? I would appreciate any and all suggestions. TIA

7th Ward, 5:40 in the a.m.
On a serious note, some of the old cemeteries are very interesting, though I don't know if they are safe.

Well then take them to the tj maxx off vets. Then you can stop by the chilis.
But seriously, if it's your first time in a place, what's wrong with doing all the tourist stuff??

Parkway Bakery for local po-boys
Brocato's for cannoli, coffee and dessert one night
City park train ride during the day
Ruby slipper or Camellia grill for breakfast.
Any of the many fine Vietnamese places throughout the city.
Not big on nightlife these days so no rec's there.

Kermit usually plays at the Little Gem on Saturday nights.

Well there is no trolley in NOLA first of all.

I don't see the problem with taking them to the tourist places. It's not like going to Disney world. They definitely should go to the French quarter and cafe du monde.

Parkway - shrimp poboy
Katie's - brunch w/charbroiled oysters
Rock 'n Bowl
Lakefront/canals
Tip's
Snake and Jakes after 4am
Pat O's piano bar
Columns bar is an interesting concept you don't see everywhere
Walk down Magazine and shop
As always, suck in their guts to fit in size 32 jeans

Look up Kermit Ruffins and find where he is playing and go listen. I heard him at Bullet's Sports Lounge off St. Bernard a while back and he was so good.
Parkway Bakery and get the Surf and Turf Po-Boy. Spend time around Bayou St. John.
Get a Muffaletta from Central Grocery and walk around the French Quarter.
Go to Cafe du Monde and the French Market.
Go Uptown and then shop on Magazine Street.

Rockin' Dopsy Zydeco is playing on Saturday, the 31st. That would be a good show with lots of locals.
P.S.: No one really goes there to bowl.

I would set some tannerite up in the middle of the street, strategically place a wallet near
Wait a few seconds for the thugs to flock, shoot tannerite can and watch the scene unfold
