quote:
St. Aloysius Parish in Baton Rouge has announced the death early this morning of the Very Rev. Than Ngoc Vu, its pastor and diocesan vicar general. Father Than, 56, succumbed peacefully after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral arrangements will be announced when these are finalized. Please pray for the repose of his soul, and in sympathy with his sister, other family members, fellow clergy, parishioners and all others who mourn his passing. "May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace."
May his memory be eternal

I remember fr. Vu when I went to college 10-15 years ago. A very nice and good man.

Wow. Thanks for posting, I wasn't aware that he was sick. I was fortunate to have been a member of St. Patrick's when he was pastor there. He knew everybody's name and memorized every Gospel reading. Amazing priest, a big loss for the diocese.

I knew him at Christ the King. He was an inspiring and humble person with a great sense of humor. He knew every Gospel by heart and never read from the book. The diocese won't be the same without him. He will be deeply missed by many.

I attended some of his masses at St Aloysius. I liked him.

He was such a good person. I will always remember being in awe when we would memorize the whole gospel no matter how long it was. I don't think I ever saw him look down at the Bible when reading it.

So sad. Was a great man and looked forward to him doing the masses when I was at LSU. Great personality and even better person I'm sure.

I think I remember when he was assigned to Christ the King with Fr. Pat Mascarella. Sorry to learn of his passing.
Can anyone provide an update on the status of Fr. Pat? He was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition way back in the early 90's, so I'm sure he has had to step down and make a major change his living arrangements since then. ??
