Man, BR is so far behind the times. It seems like a ripe market for someone with some money and the desire to brew great beer to come in and kill it
Doing research on that presently. Let's call it, extremely early research on starting a brewery/brewpub.

I still need to try that Honky Tonk west coast IPA you were talking abou
I had it at Hops and Crafts and it was pretty good. I had it recently at the Picnic Tap again and it was just alright. In my opinion, Blackstone's Adam Bomb and Hop Jack are still the two best IPAs in town.

We have like 10 breweries now.
But the top 4 are all that matter.

I think the BR market is well over due. I always tell my wife if we win the lottery the first thing I'll do, after quitting my job, is start the process of opening up a really good brewery in BR.

You make it sound so easy.

Apparently we have the same ideas.
I've been reading this book
It's a really good and detailed book so far. Interesting.
I've also read a few books from the breweries, like Stone, Lagunitas, and the Dogfish Head book. The more i read, the more i realize if i do it alone, more of my time will be on the business side, rather than the brewery side. That the actual brewing is a fraction of what it takes to run a brewery.
I've also been researching brewhouses and fermenter costs.

Which part is difficult, the opening a brewery part or the really good brewery part??

Alaskan Brewery.
Our company has a restaurant and we're considering opening our own, but nowhere on the scale of the Alaskan.

You should hit up Calf Killer. they are located in Sparta, and their stuff is really good.

frick that
I love beer and brewing, but I'd never do it as a business. I would just go volunteer at a brewery to learn more to make better homebrew. Then I'd start the process of building a kickass homebrew facility on my new property out in the middle of Nowhere, Texas

We approaching 60 in the city of Portland. I think that's only if you don't count the breweries that have multiple locations, like McMenamin's, Lucky Lab, Breakside, Laurelwood, HUB, etc...
I looked up the list on Beer Advocate, and the count was 41, but I noticed right off the bat that it was missing a few. The one's I noticed aren't insignificant - like Fat Heads, McMenamins, 10 Barrel, and Vertigo. Maybe they are only counting those in Portland proper, but McMenamin's and Fat Head's are in the city, and Vertigo is probably within a mile of the city limit.
We have more breweries out in the state, than we do in the Portland metro area. I think the total count for the state is about 250. It's ridiculous that you can go to any town with a population of over 1,000, and there is a brewery there. McMenamin's probably has 20 breweries in Oregon, alone, but those are mostly nano-breweries and sell their beer for on-site consumption, only.
