what does this have to do with that?

I am not clued into why this ordinance has passed in New Orleans, but it certainly didn't start in New York and Cali as a Baptist morality movement. It was a "public health" issue.

The NIMBY's were the ones pushing this when it first passed up there. They didn't want smoke in "their" bars.

Business rules change in the government all the time. Nothing new. The owners knew the laws can and will change. It was their choice, and they knew it could change.

Which is kind of the point. Government shouldn't be in the position to dictate how a business serves their patrons.

deep friend chicken causes all kinds of health problems. many people are even predisposed to high blood pressure and heart disease that go with eating fried foods.

should we legislate that KFC start boiling their chicken?

Anyone who supports this is a c&^t pure and simple. Someone tell me what gives someone else the right to take away a man's last few pleasures left in life, sitting in a saloon enjoying a whiskey and smoke in a warm room happy that you survived whatever war you served in, with each day more miserable then the next as you come closer to your reckoning with God.

it starts as a liberal-progressive morality movement, which is the same thing as a baptist movement at heart

They suck. Good thing we don't have them here.

A lot of NFL players have serious health issues resulting from the hits they take. Should they not have an option to play?

football is a game of consenting adults. A football player's health issue has no direct affect on my health.

On your premise, the same restaurants should be restricted in the caloric totals of provided meals to patrons. I mean, it's a public health issue.

Fat people have no direct affect on my own health.

Sorry, but neither are the same.

About 20% of adult American's smoke. Sorry, but such a small number of people should not be catered to, especially considering it affects other people.

quote:

what other choices do you want to make for consenting adults? can we get a list? why stop at smoking inside?

No one is stopping a person from smoking all together. Just inside.

The same people against this are the same people that always cry about America progressing. Smoking inside is such an antiquated idea. They pass a progressive law, and all of a sudden they cry about freedom. You really can't win.

They should put up a sign or ask the customers to leave.

I guess you're right there considering it was the Baptists who started the leftist movement. But that goes back to the turn of the century and prohibition.

I was referring to patrons, not the business owners. The bar owners fought tooth and nail.

Yes Government should be able to regulate businesses. The idea that it shouldn't is just another right wing utopian myth. It is the reason we now have safe food in restaurants, safer working conditions for employees and now cleaner air. I love my government.....sometimes.

Most people do when it works to their advantage. I've always respected people who support political ideals when they have no skin in the game.

what other markets do you believe shouldn't be catered to?

and that's kind of the point of smoking at a bar

if your idea of freedom is making moral choices for me, then yeah i have a problem with that

i presume you believe in government bans on gay marriage, possessing weed, having an open container of alcohol outside, etc?

to believe in freedom you have to believe in freedoms that you do not agree with

Non-smokers shouldn't be at the mercy of smokers. That's the point. I should be able to go into any bar i want and not worry about inhaling smoke.

Did you throw a fit when they banned smoking in restaurants?

Patronizing a bar is by consenting adults too isn't it?
