WTF is that crap?

I used to get the ham and cheese poboy on occasion at Dempseys. It was hot and melty. They use Leidenheimer bread. I like a small squirt of ketchup on hot ham and cheese.

My sandwich was not like that. The bread was thinner, the cheese was melted and was provolone, and the meat was hot.

just making sure. Still, I'm baffled by your general dislike of poboys.

My apologies then. Haven't been around the boards long enough to pick up on that.

In-laws are complete Nola snobs and it makes my blood boil. Guess I get a little fired up.

Good call on Bevi seafood. Realized it was 5 minutes from where I work and I just devoured a peacemaker poboy and their white bean & ham hock soup.

In fairness every thread about a restaurant/food not in New Orleans gets compared to a restaurant/food in New Orleans.

There is an obsession.

I grew up in Pittsburgh (the capital of hoagie country) and in my opinion, the biggest difference is the bread. Hoagies generally come on an Italian bread (Mancini's was the bakery of choice up there) whereas poboys are on the crustier, chewier French loaf such as Leidenheimer. Another big difference is that there are no seafood hoagies. They have awesome fish sandwiches -- best I've ever had -- but they're a totally different beast entirely.

nbd, just a sandwich.

sound like it came on a baguette. so that constitutes the name ham poboy imo.

toppings shouldnt matter. I think you could make a philadelphia cheese steak on a baguette and call that a poboy.

I often use baguettes for my sandwiches and i think that counts as poboy.
Man today I had pork roast, hot sausage, cheddar cheese, olives and peppers on a baguette. I called it a poboy. I may be wrong, but gatdamn that bih was fire!!!

To me a good po boy, hoagie, or sub comes with extra lettuce.

So...since we have people from all regions on this...what's the difference between a ham and cheese poboy and a ham and cheese on French bread from jimmy johns?

It just depends on where you live, I guess. I grew up catching craYfish in the crick. Down here you catch craWfish out the bayou. Same species, different name.
