Can we discuss Frozen?

I, like many fathers of daughters, watch Frozen almost every goddamn day. And because of that, I have come to have a few thoughts on Frozen.
- Where the frick are Kristoff's parents? We see him as a kid in the opening scene collecting ice with a bunch of grown men. Who were these men? Was one of these men his Dad? Did his Dad just leave him in the fricking wilderness to die of cold and starvation? And if one of those guys was not his Dad, why the frick did they just leave a small child in the middle of the wilderness to die?
- Why couldn't Elsa just wear gloves all the time..? If that prevented her from shooting everyone with ice spikes, wouldn't that have been a better solution than to just lock her up in her room for 10 years?
- How the frick do you make a dress out of ice?
- What was Elsa going to eat up there in her ice castle? Can't really grow crops on top of a mountain.
- Were all of Arendelle's tradable goods blankets and soup?
- Elsa was a lesbian, right?

It didn't. It just helped some.

Look sexy and sing. She had snow monsters to bring her any food she needed.

I love it when people question the believability of fantasy movies.
Like the people who ask why light sabers only open up to a certain point, then try to figure out the reason why.

There's actually a knob on the light saber that adjusts its reach. The jedi that makes the saber generally adjusts it to his preference.

Mufasa was Nala's father.

Ariel could never get rid of the fish smell.

Yep, Lion King 2 was centered around a main character who was a product of incest.

quote:Obviously, Kristoff's parents weren't around. He is an orphan. That's why he is basically besties with Sven, the reindeer. That's his only relationship.

The grown men he's hanging around are the ice harvesters. You are just supposed to accept that ice harvesting is a trade in Arendelle and Kristoff has picked this up as his life's work.
quote:She has worn the gloves her entire childhood, remember? Her father gives her the gloves when she's a little girl and he says something like "conceal, don't feel" right? I think keeping the girls separated like that is a drastic measure, but it adds to the drama of the story.

quote:Her dress isn't made of ice. It's just blue and white to conotate ice.
- How the frick do you make a dress out of ice?
quote:Good question...but I don't think she was up there long enough to make that a big deal in the movie. Maybe only days until Anna, Kristoff and Olaf find her.
- What was Elsa going to eat up there in her ice castle? Can't really grow crops on top of a mountain.
quote:I don't get this question...is this because Hans gives blankets and soup to Arendelle's residents?
- Were all of Arendelle's tradable goods blankets and soup?
quote:I don't think she was a lesbian, but I have read where some think the story is a feminist narrative.
- Elsa was a lesbian, right?
That help?

I too have questioned Elsa's orientation.

She was isolated for so long that she clearly had severe mental problems.

Considering how isolated she was, she was more than likely an asexual mess.

Would destroy.
Olaf is fricking awesome in this movie.

right...but they just left him and then the trolls took him in. He was alone in the wilderness. That is fricked up.
quote:
Her dress isn't made of ice. It's just blue and white to conotate ice.
She fricking made it...unless weaving cotton was one of her other powers, it was made of ice.
quote:

Yes...and then the Duke of Weaseltown says "Are we supposed to stand here while you give away all of Arendelle's tradable goods?"

A friend of mine is that character in Disney. She posts a lot of pictures on FB and it's weird/hot

Sigh. Nitpicking is dumb. the Banana pretty much answered everything with aplomb, but I'll expand on a few thoughts:
It's also heavily symbolic. She has stifled and suppressed who she is, and removing the gloves allows her to finally be her true self. Continuing to deny your true self is not a long term strategy. and yes, the parents make some poor decisions here, on the advice of the trolls, who give consistently bad advice throughout the movie.
Well, you could argue "conceal don't feel" is a reference to staying in the closet. So from this standpoint, Else could be a gay icon. I'm not opposed to that interpretation, but its not really required for the story to work. Her sexuality is largely irrelevant.
But of course it's a feminist narrative. That's not even subtle. Anna is her own salvation in the film, and the act of true love is A) performed by a woman B) towards another woman. Despite, THOSE DAMN TROLLS AGAIN, telling us it was love's first kiss, presumably with a boy. Anna and Elsa are both agents of their own actions, and the story doesn't happen TO them, it derives FROM them. Contrast that to the damsel in distress who waits for a boy to save her. Here, the prince betrays her.
