Why "How to Train Your Dragon 2" is a cow turd of a film (Spoilers)

I absolutely loved the first movie. It was a fun coming of age story in an animated film. The relationship between the father and son was a great angle for the film, and there were lots of lessons to be learned. Hiccup convinced his father and whole village that dragons made much better allies than prey. He changed the village for the better, and the new relationship that the village had with dragons was a beautiful one that promised safety for the once suffering dragons.
"How to Train Your Dragon 2" has garnered rave reviews, and many believe it is a favorite for an Oscar. What a load of bullshite.
What is the main theme of this movie? Feel free to abandon your marriage and parental responsibilities if you have a cause that you personally feel is worth fighting for.
Sounds like everything that is wrong with our society today. Today, less than 50% of children grow up in a home with two married parents. And this movie aims to make that stat worse.
In this sequel, we discover that Hiccup's mother has been alive all of this time. She abandoned her family to go protect some dragons. And let's not forget the situation she left Hiccup in. If not for finding an injured dragon in the first film, he would have been left to lead a miserable life full of shame, knowing full well that his father loathed him. If not for complete luck, Hiccup would have continued down the terrible path he was going, very likely leading to suicide in his young adult years. After all, he was shown nothing resembling love in his formative years, and he had very little self worth.
frick this movie. His mom wasn't even likable when we did meet her. Even her apology was lame. Hey parents of America. Guess what. There is nothing in the world that gives you permission to abandon your duties as a parent. Hopefully, kids around the country aren't letting their terrible parents off the hook now because they liked this shitstorm Hollywood calls a movie.

Lighten up, Francis. It was a cartoon...
A cartoon that I thoroughly enjoyed. I thought it was terrific.

You sound like a person who scratches his butthole and smells his finger after.

Oh look. No real responses. Just insults. You guys are just cogs in the machine. Going along with the norm.

While I will not take it as far as you, I did say something to my wife about Hiccups mom not being there.

It wasn't as nearly as good as the first one, and I don't agree with the OP, but Hiccup's parents were both pieces of shite if you really think about it.
His dad completely disregards everything that his son has to say and then completely casts him out and nearly dooms his clan.
His mom just runs away to be a dragon and leaves her son behind.
It's remarkable that Hiccup didn't grow up robbing stores and gangbanging.
I did like the film though.

See, I like the analysis of film undercurrents, regardless of whether or not it's a kid's film.
And honestly, the fact that it's a "kid's film," should make it more abhorrent that such themes are present. People saying that this is taking it to far don't really understand the power of meaning in the world and how a story can shape that meaning subconsciously.

Very disappointing, mediocre film at best. How an innovative, original, touching film like Lego Movie was not even nominated for Best Animated feature stuns me.

Because Lego Movie promoted what America was once all about.
