Seller is wanting $220...claiming used but in good shape
Sent a pic of the receiver and it looks pretty damned flawless. Still awaiting word on whether I can put different chokes in the barrel.
Any experience with this model? Should I go for it?

No, owning an Express is a never ending battle with rust.

This will not end well for you. OB hates the 870 for some reason. I have had mine for over 20 years and have not had a rust problem. I hunt with it all the time.
If you want it, buy it, own it

They are decent and inexpensive. I had one years ago but gave it to my BIL.

I think it's the Express most have an issue with. The Wingmaster is a great gun.

I still have my 870 express youth model 20.
It was my first gun, and will be my kids first gun. Right now it is an over sized home defense hand gun

Not no but hell no. I'd own a mossberg over a new Remington. Remington is complete crap these days. I was in Hebert guns the other day and someone walked in trying to sell them a Rem shotgun and they laughed at him. They will not buy used Rem guns bc they are crap. I don't believe they even sell them

They are very good guns for their price. For $200 that gun with a little care will be around for a long time. It wont win any beauty contests or popularity contests with some friends, but will make a good gun to have, especially as a first shotgun or a backup shotgun. The express should have a barrel that will accept the Rem Chokes.

I really like the 870 I use. It's a good gun.

I would normally agree here (I also dislike the express model for rust and some extraction issues) but for $220 he could afford to get it cerakoted for about $100 more.

Hell yes i'd buy it. I've had my express for around 15 years and never had this rust issue, but I don't treat mine like shite. It usually gets cleaned after use.

How old is the gun? I don't think the OB has a problem with the 870 Express overall, just mostly the ones that were manufactured after the Freedom Group bought them out (mid 2000's).
FWIW I have a newer model 870 Tactical that sits next to my bed and the finish is fine.

Aren't they like $300 new at Walmart?
I wouldn't go a penny higher than $150
