Thoughts on duck hunting these days

Other thread got me thinking. What the hell is up with people these days? I may just talk to my grandfather too much about the glory days of duck hunting, but I'm not very pleased with a large portion of the duck hunting community.
I was hunting on the refuge at Sabine first split and saw a group of hunters, in a matter of 5 minutes, shoot an entire box of shells at groups that did not flare when shot at. The group set up 100 yards from them was doing similar.
Besides magnum shotguns, why has the philosophy changed so much? My grandfather and even dad said it was unheard of to take a 50 yard shot. They are either committed to the decoys or they aren't. No "I can mange break a wing let's try them." I detest that way of hunting and refuse to take these kind of shots. Every bird I have shot this year has been feet down 30 yards or closer. Do people like posting pictures of ducks on their Instagram that much?

I've wondered the same thing. What's up with all of these chokes to kill high-flying birds that result in either more cripples or more lost birds? Skyblasters suck.

damn i definitely don't shoot the majority of my ducks with feet down, but i will say that anything outside of thirty yards is probably a third shell trying to finish a duck that i know i hit already.
passing shots at 20 yds or less are pretty high percentage shots for me. a lot of ducks i kill are either still circling or just passing by.

My strategy is to shoot them right in the face. Preferably blasting their goll darn beaks off.

That's a huge problem/part of it.
That and lack of education about how to actually duck hunt. Why attempt to break a wing on one out of the group at 50 yards if you could work them in and dirt roll 3 or 4 of them at 25 yards?
The problem is on public, when ducks work they will swing wide and look at multiple spreads. Somebody always gets greedy and takes shots they shouldn't take.
You eliminate that hunting private land where blinds are spaced appropriately. There isn't shite you can do about that on public land.

Exactly. I love the point when you realize you have won the game and no matter what they do it is to late for them to escape. When they are looking at the water and nothing else everyone stands up and as soon as the first one touches down, it's game over.

2 years ago I made a duck hunt on RealFoot Lake in Tennessee. The guide was telling us about part of the lake that borders a Wildlife Refuge, said it is called "The Firing Line". Ducks come flying off the Refuge, over trees, and hunters are lined up all along the border. All they do is skyblast the ducks as they fly over. The ammo manufactures like them, the guide said they typically shoot a case or two of shells in a weekend.
I don't understand how someone would even want to do that!

I made statements and asked questions

The art of working the birds seems to be fleeting.
But you are right, tough to manage on public land around people who are less humane about their shots.

nobody is forcing you to hunt public land. If you don't like it then don't hunt it...simple as that

My favorite kind of hunting is sneaking up on wood ducks in a pond/lake/slough/river and trying to get 3 of them lined up to kill in one shot. Gotta get real close.

Don't know about "these days" and I'm not a grandfather, but I've seen this going on for at least 30 years. So, it's not a very new thing.

Yea, just accept immoral hunting practices and dont say anything about it. Accept it since it isnt going anywhere. If you dont like it, then screw you. Right?

I'm not talking about solely public land
