Where do you try to put the bullet on a deer?

My dad taught me to aim right behind the shoulder about 2-3 inches up. I've shot them there and they usually die. I've also shot them in the neck and the drop. What's your ideal shot?

under 100 yards in the head. 100-300 base of the neck. Beyond 300 center mass behind front shoulder.

If it's a doe 100 yards or less, I go for head shot. Anything longer I usually go neck or shoulder, depends on angle the deer is giving me and how patient I am that day.

Perfectly broadside I shoot for COM right behind the shoulder. Most room for error and either dead right there or a very visible short blood trail.
With a bow I shoot lower.

I have always aimed just behind the shoulder. Too much tracking. Shot a doe and an 8 pt this year thru the shoulders. Both dropped in their tracks. No more tracking

i hunt with 3 rifles mainly
308 ballistic tips. and its a buck blow through both shoulders and leave him laying
30-30 under 100 yards neck, over 100 right behind shoulder about 1-2" below center mass.
270wsm- same as 30-30

I love the neck shot with the deer facing me. Pretty much anything under 200 yds I neck shoot with a rest.

Behind shoulders, through ribs, and low. I hate to mess up meat from front shoulders. I'm a trashy meat hunter.
If I'm running dogs, I aim for the nose with #4 buckshot if they're hauling arse.

I normally shoot for the center of where the neck meets the shoulder. Although i shot my last deer right in the a-hole

I have nothing to contribute to this thread. Just wanted to read the comments.

I never aim through the shoulder dont want to throw away all that meat. I always shoot high about 6 inches shoulder it gets the lung and/or spine and drops them or they dont go far. Usually a clean hole through ribs and very minimal meat wasted. I have shot a few in neck though especially does.

Ok... Where would you shoot on your 2nd shot?

Behind the shoulder, less than halfway up

2nd shot? Probably try to ear hole them from now on. Or shoot his balls off...take away his will to live.

Not a bad idea..., no balls no care
