Interesting. Where is the roof? If it failed, I would think it would have fallen to the field level? It looks like it blew away.

I would imagine Pontiac doesn't have the money to tear it down. Shoot, we can't even tear down Six Flags in New Orleans East. It just sits there. Pisses me off every time i pass it.

Absolutely haunting. I'm surprised a movie studio hasn't bought it yet just to film sports, war, and zombie movies in it.

I would think so, but the cost to safely and properly demolish probably outweighs the salvage value
The insurance on a job like that is probably a couple hundred grand.

It hasn't even been empty for 15 years, correct?

I went to the Liberty Bowl last year to watch State and visit relatives. The Mid South Coliseum in Memphis is starting to look like that. It's right next to Liberty stafium too, which is old but still in good condition.

I wonder how long the Astrodome in Houston will stay empty before they reuse or redevelop it. The old venue where the Rockets played is now a mega church.

For taxpayer funded venues, it seems like the costs to remove and redevelop an old arena should be considered with the development of a new stadium.

Here is a link to the video from what I think is the same photo shoot.

Silverdome
What has transpired with this stadium provides support for the notion to simply tear them down when done if there is no immediate/solid transition plan following the move to a new stadium.

Hard to believe they played a Super Bowl there.

It was a blow-up roof.

The cables supporting it failed and it most-likely blew away.

It's shocking that Wrestle Mania has 93,000 fans willing to travel to Detroit.

Seems like with a solid architect that structure could be converted to an interesting, usable space. Outdoor mall, condos, etc.

Would be great is there was funding and demand, but it seems they are lacking both.

There was an XFL team (or some other nonsensical junior football league) using it as a home venue in 2012.

1. Pontiac doesn't exist anymore
2. Pontiac is a reference to the city the stadium is located in, not the car brand
3. Even if it was Pontiac the car company it would just be naming rights, they wouldn't own the stadium. Mercedes doesn't own the Superdome.

4. What if that poster already knew about this and was actually referring to the City of Pontiac not having the money to turn it down.
