Big 12 researching possible candidates for expansion even before playoff snub

Big 12 officials recently met with administrators from the University of Cincinnati, a source close to the university told Sporting News. That is not an indication membership will be offered to the Bearcats in the immediate future — only that they would be a candidate were such an expansion to be undertaken.
It is not known how many other universities, if any, have had similar meetings. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby was in New York and unavailable to speak Monday with Sporting News.

Why wouldnt the Big 12 consider Louisiana Tech.
They have been a decent mid major program for a while. To me it would be a better pick up than Memphis. Although I guess La Tech's geographic and demographics of the LA tech following is not that great. They are essentially limited to Television sets in North Louisiana

Texas tech fans want to play coach tub.

Well, with West Virginia in the Big XII, they've shown that they'll take a school from anywhere.
-Houston?
-SMU?
-Memphis?
-Tulsa?
-Cincinnati?
-Louisville?
-BYU?
-Colorado State?
-Wyoming?

I would think BYU and Cincy would be the two best candidates

Cincinnati
Memphis
Colorado State
BYU
Those should all be considered.

It's about market size. Tulane would be a better choice than Louisiana Tech.

Tulane to the Big XII.
Article says chances slim, they're worse than slim there is no fricking chance of that happening.

Agree! Nobody else should even be considered.

Memphis
Cincy
BYU
UCF - why does nobody talk about them, would be a better option than all that have been listed before

Baylor is not and has never been a member of the AAU, Tulane has been since the 50s, which means your President has to show ours deference and you need to apprise yourself of the Superior Institutions to yours.
AAU membership(invitation only):

Tech has so many positive things going for them right now - academics, on campus construction, etc. but the university foundation is not on par with "power conference" level foundations. Although it has grown significantly, based on growth percentage, the amount is still staggering, in a bad way.
When Tech was in the WAC, their ESPN games always had decent viewership compared to all non-BCS schools and many BCS schools....but no where even remotely close to the Saturday CBS SEC game of the week.

IMO i think its because UCF is still relatively new to the scene. Their school is large, but a lot of thos are commuters. They have no real sports history or tradition. I get that its in Florida and the recruting that comes with that, but BYU, Cincy, Colorado St or Memphis do more for the Big 12 in all sports than UCF does.
Look at Colorado St right now:
Football - (10-2), Building a brand new on campus stadium.
Womens Volleyball - Sweet 16 (31-2)
Mens Basketball - (8-0)
Mens Cross Country - NCAA National Championships, ranked 25th
Softball - (34-17) last season
Colorado St actually makes a GREAT case to be added. Their athletic programs are all doing really well. Now would be a great time for the Big 12 to add them .

i would personally want memphis and cincy. both good programs in good cities.
you can say other sports dont matter, but they aren't completely irrelevant. the fact that each of these schools also have very legitimate basketball programs is definitely another benefit for the best basketball conference in the country.

KC Sports radio has been talking about it a lot - they are saying why stop at 12? Get some security in numbers before other conferences beat them to the punch. I agree, why not take:
Colorado State
BYU or Utah State
Cincinnati
Memphis
Geographically, that conference would suck. But that was always going to be a reality after the Big 12 went after West Virginia.

I agree, it just seems like the Big 12 is now focused on bridging the gap between West Virginia and everyone else.
